Personally, the news that the maximum stake of £2 per spin on the roulette on FOBT's is apparently coming into action from the 1st april has got to be the one of the most positive bits of news I have heard in a long, long time.
I've not played them for over 18 months now but still to this day they haunt my dreams. I still worry about being drawn over to them if I'm stood placing football bets in a bookies. They will always be my weak link.... but I honestly believe minimising the stake to this extent takes away all the attraction of playing them. I know that I will feel a lot safer once it comes into play.
I also think this will massively help the young lads coming into bookies now fresh faced at 18 year old. I know that it deeply affected my and my college mates when we first walked in. We came into the bookies to place a couple of quid on an accumulator on the football and within days were drawn over to these machines that everybody seemed to be crowding round.
I just hope this rule never changes, or at least they do definitely bring it in and it doesn't get overturned. I've played cards at the casino and I feel i will probably never stop betting on the football but I never seem to lose control stakes wise like i do with the roulette. As it's nowhere near as fast paced, I have to wait 90 minutes for the football to finish and there isn't always just another game on straight away. The ability to lose ВЈ50-£100 per spin every 20-30 seconds was always irresponsible from the gambling commission to allow.
Another point that has made me happier is gambling addiction also seems to be getting a little bit more exposure on TV/in the media. These are all positive steps. I feel for the drug addicts and alcoholics but have always felt hard done by as a compulsive gambler that it is not treated with the same seriousness. It is a mental illness and needs to be treated with the same respect. It is not a sign of a lack of intelligence or weakness.
All the best to every gambler on here in their struggles. I hope we all find peace sooner rather than later.
Morning mate .... Great post by the way and very true. What I will say is just because its 2 pound a spin to me it will still go very fast especially on the fruit machine games that can be 2 pound and every 3 seconds ? Roulette will take longer to lose i guess and harder to win anything due to the stake / odds . And now the bettingshops have rolled out the fobt roulette same software games online promoting it right now. Reason i know my friend is getting free bonus stakes on the exact fobt game and showed me. Online gamblers will feel the brunt of betting shop fobt losses. Bookies are clever people and know just what to do with the likes of me who is still trying to beat this illness. All the best:-)
Hi JayJay75.
Yeah that's true mate I'd not thought about the online games. I suppose the bookmakers are always going to find a way of churning out the large profits. I don't like to be this way but purely from a selfish point of view it's a bit of a help as the machines always seemed to be my weak link, don't know why roulette on the tables in a casino or even online have never seemed to get me the same level of excitement even though it's exactly the same game! I suppose it's just how our minds work.
All the best in your journey!
Shaun.
Thanks Shaun and yes were all wired different in the mind. All have our triggers and demons! Same to you have a gamble free journey bud.
Jay
Yes, a welcome change. £2 is not a lot of money to be honest, no incentive to gamble on roulette. I could be there for horus on end with a £10, no incentive as you can only win so much.
However those slots still are £2, doesn't seem to make sense because the slots are a lot quicker to play than roulette (I believe roulette is 30 seconds), so why not reduce the stake on those as well?
Urgh:
Yeah I've seen that myself, I dont know why they've chose to not limit the stake on the slots. I think roulette on the fobts in recent times has had a bit of coverage as to how much is being lost so the bookies maybe feel they've had to address that to seem compliant with trying to help their customers as much as possible.
Whereas the slots maybe dont get the same (correct) amount of coverage so they'll probably try get away with reducing the stakes on those for as long as they can.
For me, there's something about the machines in general that I find sinister. You can walk into a bookies and everything seems so lifeless, limited conversation between people as they're fixated on and huddled around the machines.
Hopefully this starts to change a little bit with the amendments coming into place.
All the best.
Maybe it's a bit like Kaa in the jungle book as he hypnotises Mowgli with his spinning eyes ? .
Just a thought :))
