Today I lost the only money I had left to get me to work the rest if the month it took me a matter of 5 minutes to lose it, I now feel depressed and stupid which always happens after I've did this, I really can't beat these demons and it's killing me! Getting to the point I can't be bothered being here anymore( cowards way out I know) just sick of letting everyone down and everyone know understanding this illness, I just can't go on like this as of tomorrow I need to fight my urges and better myself.

Ross, the start of your journey is the hardest part...You CAN do this! Act now, phone Gamcare, get some advice & start using it. Fighting the urges & wanting to be better is one thing (well 2 actually) but you also need blocks in place to help you do this! I don't know how anyone can do it alone.

You need to break the Time-Money-Location triangle! Self exclusion is great for this! @ the moment, you have no money but when you do, if you have nowhere to spent it, you can't gamble. Not sure where you work but have read people on here walking hours because they have lost everything & can't afford the bus fare!

Chin up, put this behind you & move on, you can do this because you have to - ODAAT

Hi Rdw123,

Welcome to the forum, and well done for posting here.

I do agree with you that you have to find ways and means to fight your urges and also better yourself. Posting here in the forum is a start, and that is a plus for you. Also, it seems like the encouragement from fellow forum members have already started pouring in. Forum members can offer you support and advice on strategies and boundaries to help you to manage your urges effectively.

With our help and support, and by observing the advice we offer you, you’ll hopefully be able to overcome “these demons” as you termed it. You must try and take responsibility of your actions by adhering to the strategies and boundaries you learn from here. It doesn’t help you if you give up before you even started. Make regular efforts to read posts from the forum, and realise that it’s possible to overcome your problematic gambling. Others have managed it, and thus there’s hope for you too, Rdw123. Read for strength, for confidence, and as well as for more strategies to help you to stop.

I’ll also like you to be aware that everyone is different, and thus it takes variable times for each one to get to their target. It’s important that you be patient with yourself, and take one step at a time.

Perhaps it would be advisable to contact our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers for further support. An adviser would be able to refer you for 12 sessions of free counselling if you think that would help you to be able to overcome your gambling problem. Pls. note that we’re open everyday from 8.00am to midnight.

Thanks again for your post, and pls. keep posting.

Best wishes,

Beatrice
