Dear GAMBIT,

Thank you for your post to the Gam Care Forum and well done for reaching out for support; we understand it isn't easy taking the first steps in to recovery.

It sounds like you have started to put some restrictions in to place around your access to money to gamble which is a really positive start. I would also recommend putting further blocks to restrict your access to online gambling/gaming.

If you would like additional support around your gambling including emotional support for you (and your wife) please do get in touch on our netline and/or helpline both of which are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day where we can refer you to free, confidential treatment support and signpost you to debt advice/management as necessary.

Wishing you all the very best,

Forum Admin.

Hi Gambit

I have been in your exact position, I borrowed money from every  available source I could. I am currently paying contracts for two mobile phones which I don't even have, I had several payday loans resulting in me only have £14 in my account the day I got paid and all the vultures took their share.

What worked for me was complete honesty with my wife and my family. They rallied round and help me to get a control on the financial mess i'd created. I handed over complete control of my finances to my wife. she pays all of my bills and if I need petrol money I get it.

Get to some GA meetings, go have a conversation with your GP, try to get referred onto some form of counselling and log in here each and every day and read peoples accounts of what this disease has done to them. its worked for me and I hope you find a solution too. i'm 115 days gamble free and I sleep better, I've more patience and I get to enjoy my time with my family.

Hope it works out for you pal.
