Does anyone else feel scared some times about monthly payday?

Each time I tell myself I will save, but for the last few I've lost most of it all in the first few days.

This payday is one I'm not looking forward to, which is a bit weird!

Absolutely! It’s like I have money, but I don’t want it, or I want to triple it, which never happens 🙁

You can recognise the problem, and if you were giving advice to someone else, what would your advice be about coping with payday?

@chris-uk Thanks for reading! I'm not sure what advice I'd give to somebody. For some reason it feels different thinking about what advice I'd give to someone, and what I'd tell myself.

But my current plan is to splash payday on myself this month at the start, something I'd never normally do. Then I won't have much left over to lose if I did place some bets. At least then I'd have something to show for it when July's payday comes, and I can reassess then.

It's all quite scary!

Try to stop thinking about money for a little bit. Very hard to do but can help a little around payday. Just forget you been paid. Don't check apps or bank statements or cash machines. Just try to ignore it while also not gambling.

I get paid weekly and I have a routine savings and targets. I am behind x amount in savings so I am going to be tight this weekend and relax the next.

Anyways good luck and stay gamble free

@5lahvteq72 I was hoping that you would say that you would recommend that they don’t have access to it so you don’t waste it. See if there is a trusted person who could just look after it and give you what you need, not what you want.

If you just splash it out, although you’ll have something to show for it, it won’t necessarily be used for the right purposes. I also have to say that when I gambled, I would convince myself that I could win my spending money and it wouldn’t actually cost me anything, and before I knew it I had lost my wages and I was chasing again.

You haven’t actually given yourself a clear gap between your gambling episodes. I’m only talking through my own experiences and it never ended well. You’ve got a chance to put some blocks in place and giving money over to someone else is a good block in the early days.
Good luck

Chris.

Still going strong, no bets!

I almost caved yesterday evening though. I almost placed bets on something I was very confident would win with good odds.

The reason I didnt deposit and bet, was because I realised that yes it Could win, but it doesn't matter in the end, because I Would lose the winnings the next couple of days anyway! This has always been the way following my big wins.

It was a bit on an epiphany, and this morning I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself.

Just for today I will not gamble

Keep going everyone, thanks for reading.
