Hi everyone,
I am 25 years old and have gotten myself to a point I can no longer carry on gambling, I am 19k overall in debt and not sure how I can ever get out of it.
I wish I never started and every time I try to stop I always end up gambling a few days later.
Need some tips for stopping for good just going to take each day as it comes but I need to stop before I get in any more debt
Hi.. and welcome to the forum.
Well if your anything like me, your gambling head uses the fact that your in debt as an excuse for further gambling. Compulsive gambling is the only addiction where further gambling can seem like the solution as well as the problem. BUT as we all know... its a vicious cycle, that only adds to the debt and more personal misery as your finding out.
No easy answers. But to start with ya gotta make it hard for yourself to gamble. Ya gotta do the self-exclusions, ya gotta sign up to gamstop, ya gotta block gambling transactions with your bank, ya gotta put your money out of reach when you feel vulnerable. Ya gotta do the practical steps to make it hard for you to fritter your money away and ya gotta do it now whilst you feel motivated to do it...
Beyond this ya gotta take yourself into the corner and give yourself a good talking to. Ask yourself... why do I do what I do??? What can I change about my life to manage the urges to gamble?? How can i fill my time better?? What can I do when I get bored and frustrated and fancy a bet?? What can I do instead??
No easy answers. Its been a struggle for me for many years. Am still a work in progress.
All the best.

Hi, it’s a positive step that you recognise you are a compulsive gambler, that’s a first step,I urge you to put measures in place now, exclude from all bookmakers around your area, exclude via gamban online, destroy credit cards,if you can ask a trusted person to handle your money affairs, you have to accept that any money temptation is to be stopped, exercise for me is working, try and keep yourself as busy as you can,try and arrange addiction counselling so you can understand exactly the damage any compulsive addiction causes,I wish I took this more seriously at 25 because believe me it will always put you on your a**e,change your personality this addiction does not give a fuxx about you it will destroy you, talk to trusted people about your problem please don’t hide it, I really hope you can come to a decision to stop now, I have had four to five relapses over a twenty five year period when I stopped and thought I could have the odd bet here and there but it does not work out that way for me personally, own your addiction and be on your guard at all times, I wish you well!

Compulsive gambling will wreck your life, it will spit and chew you up, it does not care one bit about you,at 25 I strongly advise you can do it! Only you can do it, you really want to have to stop ? Keep the big red stop button firmly planted in your head,
keep posting!

Talk to a debt charity, step change they will help you with this.
Do u mind me asking is it solely gambling debt? If it is im guessing its due to having a credit card? Apart from this and payday loans u should really have accsess to money you havent got.
this actually made me feel a little better about losing money today on the fobt machine. Although my bank is completely empty, it's not in minus. Horrible way of living but could be worst.
you must have such a depressive hopeless thought that no person can financially help you with such a big debt, it goes to show humans are limited and money is more dominant in this world.
Affected by gambling?
