Hi new here and I've been gambling for about 7 months. Just found out it is a possible side effect from my medication to be a compulsive gambler I don't want to go down this route I been on any more. I told my doctor the other day about it and as I really just come out of care from mental health team he's sent them a letter regarding the problem and I just pray that they will take it seriously and provide some action to help me. What kind of help will they offer do you think? Whats the success rate for people that do this sort of counselling? (if they even put me on that)

Hello MANOFKENT,

I’ve moved your post from the ‘Family and friends’ section to the ‘New members’ section.

I see you’ve had several replies on your other threads:

You’ve spoken with your GP about your worries about gambling, and he has contacted your Mental Health Team about it. Elsewhere on the forum you have posted about your concern about possible side-effects with your medication, so you did the right thing by talking to your doctor about your concerns. It sounds like your gambling has caused you stress, and so it is good that you’re keeping your doctor informed about how you’re feeling.

I don’t know if your local NHS will provide you with a talking treatment, but you might be interested to know that the NHS do have a National Problem Gambling Clinic in London. Here is a webpage about the sort of treatment they offer to help people affected by problem gambling:

Do feel welcome to call a GamCare adviser for support and information about recovering from problem gambling. The Netline and Freephone 0808 8020 133 are both staffed daily from 8am to midnight.

Take care,

Adam.
