I need some advice guys I'm new to this and don't know what to do!!!!!!!!
Hi I'm Gav and I'm 24 and really new too this, I think I have been kidding myself for a while now that I don't have a problem. I first started gambling around 17 just daft £5 football bets and a little bit off online poker nothing serious, and I really enjoyed it. Until I was around 22 when I started betting on horses roulette blackjack football and just about any other thing I could bet on even big brother 🙁 lol. I have a 2 year old daughter and a partner who is my world however is very soft and always gives in, every week when I get paid we work out bills and split the rest. Every single penny without fail goes on gambling in fairness I worship football and always have and normally double or treble my money on football bets, until there isn't any football and I start on horses and online casino and without fail lose all my money. It's my birthday tomorrow and I have had £500 through my hands in the last 12 hours including some early birthday money and I have lost the lot within hours I am fed up off this addiction taking over my life. From waking up to going to bed I am glued to my phone finding something to bet on it's really not healthy I am being a terrible partner and a bad dad and it pains me to say that because I love them to bits, however if I don't stop this now I will have nothing.
Hi Gav , My names Alan and I'm a Compulsive Gambler , welcome to the forum .
Great that youv'e relised that you have a problem at such an early age , so there's already a great deal of hope for you there !.
As CG's we cant win because we can't stop and that's the problem , enoughs never enough and we cant be happy with a little win and walk away , the money doesn't even become important ,it's just the buzz were chasing !.
If your serious about stopping then you need to get some blocks in place to stop you having easy access to gambling , if your betting mainly on line then you can download software that will stop you accessing sites , if it's bookies then you need to self exclude . it's not difficult and needs a couple of photos and a few minutes of your time also limit your access to cash or cards .
Doing this will keep your Time , money , location triangle broken , remove one and you can't bet ! , the rest is down to you and your willpower my friend , there's tons of help and advice on here and no judgement because weve all been where you are right now .
Keep posting and let us know how your getting on , if you need advice just post or contact Gamcare who will advise on lots of things you can do to help yourself !.
Best wishes for now my friend and welcome to recovery !
Hi GavTownson
You need help and you will find loads of people on here who will help with advice and experiences.
You do need to sit down with the people close to you and tell them what you have been doing and how much of a hold it has on you.
There is no shame in admitting to a problem.
Youve said it. "If I dont stop this now........." If you read the forum you will see countless examples of what happens if you continue to gamble.
Gambling is a mugs game for people who ignore the odds and seek a chemical high in the brain. It creates addicts who no longer have any control.
Get your life back. Your family can be a great help in talking it through and controlling your finances. Give gamcare a call and a visit to the doctor is also a very good idea.
I wish you all the very best

Hello
This is my first post but after the night I've had I have realised that I need help. In the last hour I have lost £500. It isn't even my money and I am so ashamed of what I have done. My head takes over and before I know it I keep depositing and losing. It's a vicious cycle. I haven't slept for the past three nights. This needs to end. I am so ashamed

Gav
just read this through from the start. We all understand but the only thing I can say is look into your daughters eyes & think what is most important ? Daft thing to say maybe but we all need to break the cycle. Hide the phone / change it / lock the laptop
Affected by gambling?
