Hi

My wife and family have recently found out about my gambling addiction over the past 9 months. I have spent a lot of money and also won some however it has left me with 15k of debt

I feel as if people knowing what i have been feeling over past 9 months has helped me release a lot of the pressure i was puttingbon myself to win back what i had lost. I now feel strong enough to turn my back on betting for good

Has anybody got any good tips for staying well away from it going forward?

Thanks

Tell your self , you can do it. One day at time. Am also new to this. But I think if we put our mind to it  we can do it.

Yes print pictures of the debt balance out and stick them all around the house

Everytime you gamble it will go up ....

The best advice I can give is to be fully open - always and to ensure that you have gamban installed on your devices  and signed up to gamstop.

I have also provided access to my bank accounts to my partner. She has my banking app (which also has a gambling block on it) on her phone and this I feel gives me enough protection. I am now a month gamble free.

I have had this addiction for around 14 years or more and being fully open with your situation and not holding any information back alleviates so much pressure.

Wishing you all the best

Hi, start off strong, install blockers where need, go to the casino/bookies and exclude yourself asap if that's the problem area.

Talk to your partner/parent etc, ask them to have access to your accounts, let them see what you spend on.

Be honest.... With yourself too.. what's gone is gone, done try to win it back, it'll cost you more!!!

Put the buzz of Trying to win or recoup loses into the future, your recovery, that pound you might bet is now a pound off a debt, a sandwich to feed yourself, that 10 pound is a few meals or fuel to get you where you need to be... I hope that makes sense.....

Please utilize the support that's available, especially sites like this, it's been a huge help to me, I'm only 2 weeks in but this site has been a total lifeline to me.

Take it one day at a time

Best wishes
