Hello! Joined the site in the hope that it will help me remain gamble-free! Feels like a year but only actually been 3 months. Lost around £40k in my lifetime and only 30 years old with 2 children and married. The fact I joined shows I am getting edgey and DO NOT want to fall back in the dangerous trap. Some encouragement will go a long way I guess but may the hard work of not gambling continue! Feel good for my achievements so far. Hope everyone is okay during these lockdown times 🙂

Dear @beat_gambling_today

It’s good to see that you have joined the forum and welcome.

Well done on being 3 months gamble free, that is such an achievement and I think that you should be very proud.

Also, it’s great to see that you have the insight into your thinking and feelings to know that you are feeling ‘edgy’. When we recognise that there is the potential to slip in any of the challenges we take on in life; that prepares us to be vigilant and on our guard. This will go along way to helping you keep up your recovery.

We are available on the helpline to talk about your recovery and to give you encouragement at any time should you wish to get in touch.

Kind regards

Jo

Hi,

The only advice I can give is think off your wife and kids, knowing that if they need new shoes, clothes or money for phone credit you'll have it, that's what I do and it works for me, I've 3 kids 2 off them boys and I don't want to set a bad example to them by wasting my hard earned in the bookies and struggling to get by.

Good luck with it.

Hey thanks guys. It’s all good I will be logging in daily to check-in with others as well as myself - it is an important part of recovery. Some days are really tough where some days are real easy. I keep busy and use the postponement method a lot to rid of any urges to fall back in the trap.

Certainly be thinking of my kids, very true thank you.
