Hi everyone, I’m a parent of a gambler.  I need support on where to go from here.  I want to help my son, he’s torn us apart financially, and emotionally.  Today I’m angry tomorrow I’ll be sad.  Feel so let down by the constant lies of ‘I’m fine’ and acting like he’s fine.  He’s not fine he’s just owned up to another 14k that he’s been hiding that he owes.

Hi

I’ve just joined this site and I have found some useful information and thank you to Adam above.

I feel your pain. I’m a parent of a son who has bpd, severe health anxiety, benzo addiction and now gambling.

he has spent over £60000 gambling, numerous lies and guilt. I have lent him thousands to help with bills and food but the lies and manipulation get me and I give in. He’s my son and I love him and he does have a kind soul and is intelligent!

But the abuse that comes with it verbally. And liea and excuses. Then I find I lie to my husband to cover it.

My ex (his dad ) was abusive, an alcoholic and gambler. He tried to kill us and went to hell and back with police and witness support and protection orders.

it too me a long time to heal from this as well as my children. Now 16 years on I feel I’m going through the same things and trauma from my son.

im barely holding on. Im disengaging with my son but my heart is breaking.

x

Hi Kate,

Thanks for joining the forum and sharing peer support here.

If you like, you can start a topic thread of your own, so that more forum members will notice you.

It sounds like you have been through a lot, and that you have learned much from your experiences. You are probably already aware of the domestic abuse services and victim support services in your nation. If you are based in the UK, then please also call us on our freephone 0808 8020 133, so that we can support you too.

Take care,

Adam.
