So today is the day that I have taken action and asked for help. I’ve been gambling for 8 years give or take now, I’ve probably known for a while I’ve had a problem, but it’s hard and a scary thought when your gamble to see an end. I cannot carry on this way though, not only for myself but everyone around me the hurt and disappointment I see in my mum and dad. Not to mention the anxiety and stress of not having any money and being in debt and just working to gamble and having nothing at the end of it. Today is hopefully the first day, we’ll i have been gf for 5 days but that’s because I have no money in my account. I know pay day is usually a very hard one, but registered with Gamstop so fingers crossed this will make it a little easier.

I know this will get easier it just very scary when something has controlled your life for so long, it’s like being stripped bare and vulnerable. Plus no one likes change, but this will be a good change. I joined the online chat room tonight and i realised there are so many people, j am not the only one.

For me a good first goal and achievement would be to be debt free and to have a new car and just not to worry how or when I can pay my bills, or how I’ll get money.

I CAN DO THIS

Good goals but for me as someone who's relapsed time after time I would suggest setting some different goals aside from souly 'financial goals' yes money makes the world go round but I can guarantee there are millions of people below the poverty line alot happier than many multi millionaires. If you souly focus on recouping your financial targets and don't focus on yourself and your happiness your mind will get swamped by financial thinking, and what's the seemingly easiest quickest way to change things around? Gambling! The temptation is too real. I don't know your circumstances but if you have a job and healthy income etc try to just focus on your happiness. My big change to coping this time round instead of punishing myself from relapsing by living like a hermit to save money resulting in depression anxiety and frustration I'm going to use next payday to do the things I enjoy, i hope you do too. Saving is great but try not too punish yourself into despair.

I’ve been signed up since Saturday and been gamble free since, it’s my payday tomorrow and I know it’s gonna be hard but it’s gonna be so worth it in the end. I’m only 22 and gambled for 4 years now since the day I turned 18, lost a lot of money in between and struck up debts. The scary process begins but stick with it we can get out the other side.

Having had experience of earning and gambling- going gf when no cash is fine, however in my case whenever I got paid bang! Off it went and in a day skint / borrrow ..... my advice to you is hand you money over to mum and dad, let them see what you spend, this two fold benefit, stops you having the ability to gamble all your wages, and it will help them to see you mean it! If I had done this 30 years ago I may have saved 30 years of hurt! Good luck with your recovery put in barriers and don’t gamble today

Hi Dane,

How long have you signed up to GamStop for?

I signed up yesterday for 5 years after saying enough is enough.
