I'm 39 and have been gambling since I was 16. I gamble most days, mainly on horses and sports. God knows how much I've spunked over the years. My family know I gamble, but do not know the extent. Over the years I've had thoughts of stopping, but I've always relapsed. Yesterday was different, why? Because I've finally realised that there is no point to gambling. It makes me moody, skint, irrational, selfish etc etc. I remember back to when I was 18 and my mom said to me "son, I don't mind you gambling, just as long as you're not an alcoholic". She obviously didn't realise at the time that gambling addiction is one horrible disease. Well for me I had my last bet on 28/12/17 and I will hopefully never have another one.

Hi Dave

Welcome to the forum

You mentioned that you had always relapsed in the past and so I would like to invite you to call the freephone helpline 0808 8020 133 to see what additional support might be available for you to try. Well done for making a fresh start and I hope you find the forum useful in supporting you with your recovery.

All the best
