Hi Proud, sorry I should have elaborated more on my other post. It took a little while to get everything that they needed together. I started the whole process about five weeks ago but hoping that it'll be sorted very soon. I don't get much contact from them usless I email/call them but I take that to mean that they are working through everything for me.

I went onto their website and did the debt remedy thing which came back with the options of a debt arrangement scheme, or a debt management plan - I went with the DAS. It means that my name will be on a register in Scotland but all the debts will be paid back within 4.5 years (including interest accrued to when I made contact with my creditors to tell them I was getting help from StepChange). I couldn't see a way out before to be honest, I just kept getting further and further into debt with credit from companies that were charging the earth for interest! Now, I can finally see an end to it, as long as I stick to my plan which I fully intend to do. It'll be great to be debt free for the first time in 20 years!!

I'm not sure how much more to say at the moment until I get into full swing with the plan but to date, I can't fault StepChange. Hope you get your debts sorted. Let me know how you get on

Hi GT,

Yes I know the feeling. I'm in Scotland too and the first option it game me was a trust deed which I'd rather not do as it takes the house into it. The DAS is what I think I will do, will take a bit longer than you however I can't keep up with payments just now due to the interest so will be good to have a monthly payment without having to chase my tail (fingers crossed).

You shouldn't accrue any interest though GT if you decide to go with a DAS. Have you taken a moratorium? "A moratorium is a six week period of debt relief during which creditors cannot take any action against you for debts you owe them."

The interest is only added on if you decide not to take out the DAS. Good luck with your plan being approved and would be good to keep hearing how you are getting on. I'll certainly be updating my diary about the whole process after Christmas.

Hey PA, hpe you're doing well.

I've just emailed StepChange again today to see what stage my application is at. I'm hoping to get a response this time as I didn't last time I asked, two weeks ago! I've had a phone call from one of my creditors asking for an update but I don't know what to tell them! Would like to know if I have to make a payment before Christmas 🙂 It's frustrating when you just want to get it sorted but have to rely on other folk to do it!

I'll keep posting progress and hopefully there will be good news soon!
