Hi everyone,

I would like to commit to the 2015 challenge and this is day 1 of being free from this addiction.

I'm 34 and been gambling for nearly 20 years. I've had some months which have been gambling free and when I've felt happy in my life I haven't missed gambling. I've mainly bet on horses and football but also the dogs when there's been no racing on. I've tried self exclusion from bookies and this has helped but over time the exclusions have ended and I've found myself going back in.

I have a successful job and work long hours which are stressful. Gambling has been my release and something to look forward to after work. I have also found it has led to my drinking spiralling out of control which has been used to help me sleep rather than for enjoyment. I have loved gambling over the years but the cost has been too high and I now find myself in a lot of debt which is going to be really hard to manage.

I've started to realise that the recent catalyst to my gambling was splitting up with an ex girlfriend. I had sorted my life out and was only gambling what I could afford to lose but over the past year it has spiralled out of control. I have many friends and family but it seems I have turned to gambling to keep me company after a busy day at work and weekends. Things need to change and I'm hoping through the support from this forum and my determination to stick to this challenge I will start to get my life back on track.

Good luck to all and here's to a prosperous new year!

Honk

We now have over 50 soldiers, I didn't think we would have so many troops this quickly, but we are all nicely set for a good year and to collectively save a lot of money. TheMorningRain, if you are unsure how it works read my opening post or take a look at the 2014 challenge, its an inspiring read.

Good afternoon,

Hope I'm not too late for the 2015 challenge!

I only tend to bet on horse racing and have been doing so since I was 16.

However, over the last year I feel it has been taking over my life and my urge to chases losses is increasing. I have lost more this year and want to take part in the 2015 challenge to get myself back on my feet and stop for good.

This challenge will help me immensely.

Thanks,

AB

Hi bornagain great idea and fair play to you for you taking up the responsibility.

I last gambled 31st December 2014. In December I decided once again to quit and had 2015 in my head as my year to really change hence the bet on 31st my addiction convincing me it was okay as the new year means a new start the very next day anyway so this will be my 2nd day and I look forward to this challenge. I've been involved in some 90 days challenges in the past and found them helpful. I hope this can really help me succeed.

I have a wife and plans for starting a family, so all the motivation is there - although we all know it's not that simple. I have a large amount of debt and it's hard to look beyond trying to get the quick fix but I know such a thing does not exist.

I gambled on football and golf mainly but I'm a sports punter and at one time a fairly heavy horse player to. But will also bet on dogs and virtual racing.

I have been trying to quit for a few years now with mixed results obviously never quite making it work for me. Hopefully this will be my year and the challenge will help.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Hi All Sad to admit that I had a minor blip on New Years Eve, too much alcohol & the lure of the fruit machine proved too much. However on the positive side still gamble free 2015.(2 Days)
