I strongly recommend you watch this 15 minute TED talk. Fascinating insight into the nature of addiction, and what maintains it. It makes a lot of sense to me, and may help you all think about your lives more holistically in order to maintain your sobriety.
Video did not contain any potential triggers, as far as I noticed.

Just watched the talk, and I could definitely connect with what was being said. Wanting to escape my reality, and not feeling I have anything to get out of bed for are definitely reasons why I have gambled b4. Problem gambling is very isolating which only makes the problem worse. Finding purpose in life, and feeling more connected with people you care about are definitely ways to help stop a dependency on gambling. Its about treating the root cause, rather than looking at the symptoms.
The current 'Lad brokes life' advert plays on the need to feel connected with people. It sells the connection with others rather than the gambling product. Clever marketing, but we all know how gambling can take your loved ones from you and leave you alone.
pleased you got something out of it! remember it's not always the drug, but the cage you find yourself in 🙂
Interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing
Thank you freda. This was very helpful.
Connections is what its all about. I see it very clearly in myself.
Human beings were never designed to be alone.
Excellent talk, makes a lot of sense.
Thank you for the feedback, I'm delighted people have found it of some help.
Much love, f x
Hi I've just watched that video and for me it makes sense as I started gambling late in life at a time when I was off work through an illness for several weeks and was home alone for long periods and could not leave the house. Thank u x
Absolutely! I agree with this video wholeheartedly.
Thanks for posting.
I know that I have had this cage my whole life and gambling for me was about escaping from something whether that be inadequecy loneliness or depression. My counseller also confirms it can be a cry for help and also a process of trying to feel like somebody in life...almost like the affirmation that a machine will accept and love me when I walk in. I have always felt like an outsider even if Im creating it in my own mind. He puts it very well but I was finding all this out before seeing the video.
Personally I know it could have been a bottle or drugs but I chose gambling. It was a temporary ( but highly destructive) escape from stress and depression in my life.
In a way I dont want to generalise but I saw many lost souls in gambling dens
Affected by gambling?
