I've recently set up an account in my girlfriends name. I ended up getting out of control and deposited 8 time within half an hour all for 100. I've emailed the company involved and come clean and given details of my own account. Both have now been closed but ive had no reply from the company. My girlfriend is unaware at the moment although I intend to tell her when she wakes up. What can I expect to happen to me? I've come clean and expressed how ashamed I am and that I will co-operate 100% with the company. Do they have to refund the money? I take full responsibility for what's happened but was wondering if the company should of allowed so many transactions in a short period of time. I'm overwhelmed with guilt and fear of the consequences I would really appreciate if anyone could tell me what I can expect to happen?

Hello 1987556,

It sounds like you still have some questions after talking with the company in question, and you’re concerned that you’ve broken the terms and conditions of your account and you feel uncertain about possible consequences. You’ve shared that you have feelings of guilt, shame and fear; please feel welcome to call the GamCare advisers for emotional support on Freephone 0808 8020 133 or on our Netline; both lines are staffed from 8am to midnight every day. The GamCare advisers will listen non-judgementally and talk to you with understanding. The advisers can let you know about additional resources like https://www.adviceguide.org.uk/ and if you feel you need professional therapeutic support to overcome your gambling problem, they can facilitate your referral to free specialist counselling appointments.

Take care,

Forum Admin.

Hi,

I really feel for you, Ive been in your situation. As an addict myself may I say you obviously have a serious addiction.

I am a recovering heroin and C*****e addict and have also had a prob with gaming and I recognise the sort of behaviour you're talking about very well. Its an illness and you are out of control. Why is there a war on drugs but relaxation of gambling laws?

I hope you can be honest with your partner but above all else be honest with yourself too. Honesty and communication about addiction, I feel, is the best way to recovery.

Good luck.

Hi mate you've made a grave error in judgement one in whic I did myself using my wife's credit card.

I had the exact same feelings as you but for the life of me I don't know why I chose to do it.

The company are not obliged to give you the money back, being as it was a while ago I hope you did what I did.

Confessed and said I have a problem and paid the money back.

Hi. I'm pretty sure your girlfriend can claim the money back from her bank as in theory their fraudulent tranasctions.

Where you stand I'm not sure!?

Most of these sites don't care about anything after they have your money.

I'm new to this site & know how your feeling, you can only be honest with your girlfriend,it'll only make things worse lying to her. Hope things are ok between you both.

Chris

I'm in the same position and have done the same thing. The bank said my partner would have to press charges against me before they would refund anything. She doesn't want to do that because she is supportive of me getting better.

The bank won't just refund the charges though. In my case I just hope I can get a refund from the betting site as they allowed me to open an account with the same details even though I was self excluded.
