Do we need all these "stickies"? 🙂
I agree, Phil, Ineffable - a little housekeeping wouldn't go amiss.
I agree that old challenges and 'old' requests for volunteers where the deadline has passed should have their 'Sticky' assignation removed and allowed to drift down the page.
Or, Challenges could get their own Forum sub-heading.
I would like to see a revamp of how the Forum categories are organised; it's been the same for over 10 years so far as I can see.
Certainly the gaming landscape has changed over the last 10 years, so shouldn't the Forum structure 'keep up' ? It's 'Ok' but needs a refresh.
Gamcare needs to fight for it's share of the funds like other gaming 'new kids on the block', like gamblingaware.org. It has to keep up and continue to innovate like any commercial organisation. The Forum has been resting on it's laurels for a long time and, given the sparseness of the success stories (see the 'Success' thread - frightening few posts) wonder if it's missing a 'trick'.
Little touches or 'tweaks' could make a substantial difference.
Or is gambling simply that difficult to control and shake off? We need to send a better message than that (even if I'm not far from the truth...)
Gamcare - don't throw in the 'towel' with the Forums - there are things you can do, collaboratively with those of us who have been in the thick of this insidious condition - your readers. How you engage with us could yield substantial fruit.
This isn't a criticism but we all need a 'shake' now and then so hope this post is taken in the spirit intended. It's not about the number of visitors that counts - it's the results that matter.
Most visitors who start a diary make a few posts and stop forever; why is that? Only the hardy 'stalwarts' continue - why is that; especially when gambling is a lifelong condition? How can the Forums improve matters?
I could go on but have got to go to work now. A three hour rail journey awaits. Still, at least I've got my creative juices flowing ... over to you, Gamcare ... let's get the ball rolling 🙂
Thanks, guys, your points are valid and I've removed four stickies from this section, including old challenges and one research request. You're right in that it was getting a bit cluttered up there. We'll try to remove some of the other research requests when we're certain they're no longer needed.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Travis
