Hi,
I'm 19 and in my first year of university. I'd never gambled before coming to uni but there was a night in freshers which involved the casino and free bets, managed to win and leave with £20 which I was thrilled with. Since then, I've gradually been betting more and more, betting up to £1000 a spin on roulette recently.. I started with around £3000 of savings in the beginning, and managed to get lucky in the casino to begin with, at my highest point I had about £18000. In the past week or so, I've lost back £7500 from the £18000 although I said I'd stop many times - £16500 £15000 £13000 £11000 etc and just keep saying if I carry on I'm sure I'll win some back. Today I put £500 on w**********l, made it up to £2500 and withdrew, then later got bored and reversed the withdrawal and lost it all. I've taken the step to self exclude myself from all the casinos that I'm registered to tonight. Just wondering if anyone else has any tips on stopping, as if I continue it'll definitely become a major issue in the future and could easily have a very negative impact on my study. It's just so addictive.
i believe you have come just in time to retain your winnings and your right it would/will turn into an issue if you dont nip it in the bud now. I so want you to keep those winnings and completely quit gambling after what Ive done recently. I know the mentality too....you feel a bit aggrived that you've thrown £7.5k away...but you havent you've won £7.5k and you've been very lucky to do so.
I had my big win after years of regular losses last year....£7000+. I thought I was sensible after so many years of gambling (and I was to a degree) until recently when my world has collapsed to a degree and I lost control..again. Im still trying to forgive myself....which Im struggling to do but I was lucky enough to use that money somewhat in addition to other winnings and put it towards my biggest addiction- travelling...taking numerous trips, treating my mum a few times too. Please please put a stop to this. Bank the winnings enjoy.....and never gamble ever again. This is coming from someone who had until recently made his only source of income from gambling for the last 16 months or so. Do not gamble OP. Best wishes.
