139 days to go...
Hope we all had a gf weekend! Hang in there people better times are coming
I've started reading again since I began my recovery, something I used to do years ago. I started by reading Keith Gillespie's autobiography, How Not to be a Football Millionaire - a fellow countryman lucky enough to make it as a pro footballer but had his problems along the way. I don't think he admitted to being a compulsive gambler but the signs are there. A good read for a football fan.
Next up was a book called 'Tails I Lose' by Justyn Rees Larcombe. I just stumbled across it one day and gave it a go. It's about a guy who had everything you could wish for, family, kids, successful well paid job etc. He actually didn't place his first bet until he was in his 40's! It's a very good read and one that I, as a compulsive gambler can relate to in so many ways.
I am currently reading another Irish legend's autobiography - Ohh Ahh Paul McGrath, Back From the Brink. Almost finished and it's another very good book. Although it's a different addiction he suffers from (alcohol) the paralells are there. Plenty of laughs in there too and another one for football (and non-football) fans.
Anybody any suggestions on good books they have read? Doesn't need to be about addiction or anything, that's just the types of books that attracted me at this early stage in recovery.
Glad to hear your doing well Sam. I to have started back at reading I used to only read autobiographies particularly sportsmen etc but as we've got loads of books in my work I've read others. Such as James Patterson,David baldacci Ian rankin etc these are more crime based and a change from sport etc and a reasonable way to kill some time. 🙂 how have you been doing "change"? You still hanging in there mate?
I'm doing good thanks. I'm on day 34. Staying focused on my future. Really pleased to see people posting and doing well. I need to up my posts but I'm travelling a lot this week and don't have my usual commute on the train to be able to type away.
In relation to books, I love Andre Agassi's autobiography.
Good stuff 🙂 I think cos it's still early days for me and I'm off work I'm using the site more than others but it helps me so you gotta do what you gotta do. Like most people my big challenge will come when my wages hit the bank at the end of the month but I'm already planning for that and putting blocks and barriers in place so come the end of the month hopefully it'll pass s just another day. Keep it going lads
Hi id like to join in, I'm on day one and hoping to get to the new year without a bet.

Another day down, gamble free. No real urges today kept myself busy. It's a long road but I'm another step down it 🙂 hope we're all well
May I join you guys? I could do with the added support...
Welcome aboard mate the more the merrier 🙂
Thanks. Let's do this. No gambling today, going for dinner to celebrate. Best wishes all.
Another gamble free day as well but it's easy when I've no real means to. I dare say where there's a will there's a way and I'd find a way but no urges today. The big test comes at the end of the month when the wages land but I'm determined. Hope all is well
Well done new beginning - you're doing fantastic.
