I’ve had an on off problem with gambling for years but continue to bet. I set deposit limits and inevitably when I’ve lost all my deposit limit it feels like a release and I can finally relax for the day.

Betting costs me money and makes me feel so low afterwards but prior to the bet I actually look forward to the ‘fun’ and how much I might win that day.

It’s a vicious circle.

Hi,

I can understand what you are saying, but no matter how much you win you are always going to lose. Being the compulsive gambler that will tear you apart in the end,it’s dangerous, put measures in place to stop other wise for sure your always be in that vicious circle, I wish you well.

Hi, your post suggests you gamble to your limit until you lose which is the habit of a compulsive gambler. Seriously ask yourself, and be honest, would you stop if you had a big win. I can guess the answer is no as you will continue hoping to win more until you have lost it all.

You need to stop completely and get all the blockers in place so you can't do this anymore which is the only way out ot the "Vicious circle". Just think what you could be doing with the money you throw away each time you bet.

It's not easy to leave this evil behind but can be done with the right support and blockers

Good luck

Thank you @bladesman.

I put all the appropriate blocking mechanisms in place and it helped me to stop for over 6 months. When the blocks had ended I felt like I could now control my betting.

I think it’s the shame, fear of never betting again and fully admitting that I have a problem that keep me from stopping. That sounds daft but I find it easier to cover up / lie about my betting stakes rather than walk away.

I know the help and resources are there to get me to stop. The only person who can make it happen is me.

Well done to everyone who has already taken that big step.

There is only 1 way to do this, blockers on for max 5 years. Don't understand your fear of never betting again when it causes you so much pain

Hi Pigeon

I get it when you say you get peace when unable to bet - sometimes there is a self destruct button within us when we actually *want* to lose just to get to that peace and not have the ups and downs and stress and worry which comes with the territory. How about thinking what life would be like to have that peace all the time? Not saying it would be perfect and its difficult, sometimes impossible to replace gambling with something else which fills the void. For me I'd say it depends to an extent how old you are and what your circumstances are. The younger you are / the less time you have been gambling, the more chance of turning your life around.

You say you set Deposit limits but it sound like regardless of that you end up losing all of your disposable income anyway, maybe just takes longer than it would with no limits on? Ever thought that you just want ammunition to gamble to be in the action, its not about the winning, we dont do anything with winnings, we just gamble more.

For the record, you dont mention borrowing money / having any debt? In my book that makes you a problem gambler, not a compulsive gambler ( which in itself is bad enough dont get me wrong ). But for me you are only a compulsive gambler if you borrow money after all your income has gone. ( I have borrowed on overdrafts, credit cards, loans, re-mortgage, from friends and family under false pretences etc). I gambled compulsively for over 30 years - my finances are a mess and I've lost friendships and relationships for good. I hope you can quit and turn your life around and dont end up like me, best of luck - you seem to know the tools which you can use and there is plenty support on here, but you need to want it badly or be at a point where you desperately need to stop..

It aint going away, it just wont quit

Captain
