Hey Duncs,

Glad to see your hitting the weights, I'am slowly working on the machine weights myself. What a special relationship you have with you wife. It's got to be great to have a very supportive partner in your journey of abstinence. Your words about the light switch having to be turned on before you really start to move forward in your recovery our so true. I look at it like we had a fuse get short circuited in our brains and until we replace that old burnt out fuse with a new one, that's when that bulb shines every so brightly. Enjoy your weekend.

Hi Duncs,

Great post there. Got me thinking about that movie Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. For the life of him he just could not get those lights to come on but, when the switch was finally flipped and the connection was made and the "Halleluiah" played well, as they say, the rest was history. lol! Have a great rest of the weekend Duncs. Cheers to you and your Sarah! -joanxx

morning diary.

Had a lazy hour before the day begins, tea and whippets in bed. lol.

read a great deal of recovery diaries today and i take great heart in the fact that there is such wonderful humility amongst us. We are all addressing our shortcomings as compulsive gamblers, we don't blame others for those shortcomings we don't dwell upon "what we had" or more importantly were we lost it through our poor judgements. we unite in the common goal to live life as better people and wish that upon others. this is truly a gift better than any financial benefits in life. To learn from my mistakes and think i can band with other like minded folk to achieve a greater good of our own making is a truly wonderful thing.

something i today am again immensely proud to be part of.

to not judge or be judged by our past and place our lives in our own hands.

a gift i embrace each day

with a choice to better my tomorrow.

no bet today

Hi mate, sounds as if your day has got off to a great start.

Haven't been on for a few days but thanks for your post. I was at the game on Friday and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. I firmly believe we gave everything, it's just a shame we didn't get the one goal, our second half deserved. Roll on Monday but will be hard without the murray mint.

Speak soon buddy

Morning Diary.

Thanks for the kind words irene, yes I did have a very forefilling and pleasant weekend, always great to see my mum and Ed and I know they enjoy seeing us as a family these days, not the egg shells we all used to live on, due to my addiction.

So sad to see joan leave the forum, she has contributesd a great deal to the diaries in her time here and I am sure I am not alone in hoping she finds what she deserves from life and that the gamcare door is never shut, it revolves.

Today I reflect on the positive things I can take from everything life throws my way, through recovery I have learnt to take my medicine however it tastes, sometimes the things I least wanted to hear were the best things to hear.

I take great heart from the fact that gambling doesnt rule my every thought in my life today, and nor does recovery, I can actually enjoy the things I do as there is not always an ulterior motive to them, yet in the same breathe I choose to devote time to my recovery each day as I respect the fact that without it I would be in a whole world of sh#t. I know it works to read the forum, try to find objectives from it and use them in life, gamcare, my diary is like my first aid box, theres many things inside to help my journey, and I live safe in the knowledge it's there.

For today that inspires me to better my tomorrow by not have a punt on anything today.

And to boot the honourable flagg continued his streak too 400 days today, that is great for the soul.

My name is duncan I am a compulsive gambler NO bet today, no bet since 23/01/2012.

Stepping forward never back.

Thanks for my diary entry. I am liking the idea of us here all working as a team as you do in your kitchen, all adding different flavours and if someone burns the dinner everyone jumps in to help out.

Loads of recipes for sucess on here and bandages for burnt fingers in your first aid box.

d**n that's made me hungry talking about food and still trying to do this healthy eating malarky. yuk.

Morning Diary.

Well I have felt all at sixes and sevens the last few days, I know why my Sarah's birthday approaches and My mind is formulating things I can do to celebrate, gifts I can give, and there in back lerking in a dark corner is the compulsive gambler, saying go on fella look what a big win would gift her!! Well without doubt the answer would be this MISERY. In war with myself I know who will win, and that's because I have my own self respect, this place and my Ga family to top up my resolve to say, not today, today I don't need the self impending doom a punt would bring, I know statistics show, wins come after a period of abstinence, but a win for me no matter how big would just be loading the gun, the gun in my head that sits safety catch on, bullets in holster, but to take a punt I know I would reload and fire at will, a choice today I will not be making.

Today I have dosed up, feel like the haze is on the move and will work with what I have, because I am worth it, therefore I wont being risking a penny.

Just for today NO BET, proud again to be a member of the forum, as it feeds my soul.

My name is duncan I am a compulsive gambler NO bet since 23/01/2012
