Left work late tonight. Probably feeling guilty for taking too much time out during the day.

Did come straight home though. First time in a long time. Tired of chasing losses. No more.

Going to carry on reading other diaries now.

The start of day 1.

Seems that everything I do has to be to excess.

Smoke too much, probably drink too much, can't control gambling and the first issue to deal with today is that I have been caught speeding!

Never ending.

Today I will not gamble, speed or drink.

hi mrt1969,

Sorry to see you back struggling with this nightmare addiction, but you are in the right place for support.

You have to make the decision to stop, whatever the reasons are, once that is done, the recovery is possible. I am rooting strongly for you. You have done it before, so you can do it again. Take any available advice you can - counselling turned my life around completely, it's available through gamcare and it's free.

Also, telling the truth to those around you about your problem is the single most important factor in recovery. I haven't come across 1 problem gambler who kept their problem a secret and succeeded in beating their addiction. Somehow it feeds on dishonesty/lack of transparency.

I truly wish you all the best.

Cheers,

DT.

Halfway through day 1 and there are no urges to gamble, although gambling is still very much at the front of my mind.

Keep thinking about the last few days, the ups and the downs and the wasted time. That's what's really bugging me.

Suppose if I hadn't had the downs I wouldn't be back here!

Anyway, onwards and upwards. The past is just that. Time to deal with now, and then the future.

Regards to all

Hi Mr T,

sorry to hear you have slipped but you are straight back on the horse so that is good!

I am also finding maintaining long term abstinence difficult. I gather it just takes a bit of consistent effort, and Ive plenty of that.

Take care,

f x

Just finishing off at work and for the first time in a long time, I haven't gambled during the day.

Feel a d**n sight better for that as well. Got so much more done today. Have a lot to make up now, and quite looking forward to it.

Have had to make one trip out today, work related, but no devious detours.

Want to feel like this more often, already in a better frame of mind.

Take care all

Day 2 of this battle and things seem to have gone rather well.

No urges and certainly no gambling.

Spent a bit of time during the day reading various diaries and got into chat this afternoon. Found both therapeutic.

Much happier today. Feel in control again.

Take care all

Payday today. Have just logged on to the banking website and moved pretty much all of it out of reach.

New target. Want to go one complete pay cycle without gambling. Should be achieveable.

Good luck all

No urges today. Good that I haven't had the time to worry about it.

No excuses for gambling on the way home tonight either and will do all I can to avoid any reason across the weekend also.

Have a good bank holiday weekend all.

Good day today. No gambling just family fun.

Did have a test of my resolve earlier this afternoon, when I had to pop up the shops. Bookies in the same parade but didn't think twice about it. Just went to the shops and that was that.

This time last week, would have been a 1 1/2 hour trip for 10 minutes shopping!!

Good feeling, long may it continue.

Enjoy the rest of the bank holiday weekend all.

MRT hi,

it sounds very familiar what you have been going through (I have done exactly the same things as you and Im nrly 35 yrs old & I should be ashamed, in fact I am)...I will never say I have beaten this addiction...sad really I feel sorry for all of us...but it is just a rush of adrenline asolutely nothing to do with money, machines or gambling...it is what and who we are as people...THRILL SEEKERS!...ok I see you have slipped I have also a million times....I bet there is other things you would like to do but never do it? (like murdering the bookies)...why dont we?????...I like what you said about the £500 jckpt will never change our lives correct!....I have admitted to a lot of people who I know tht im recovering ....I felt ashamed, but you know what I think it is helpin..(although my family always knew & never offered support?)...anyway YOU MUST CONTINUE TO POST! we share the same common thingymijjiggyies (lol i forgot the word) SO we can support eachother... and enable you to reach your goal...and forget about gambling any kind or form...it wont be easy...but we will be here always (I HOPE)....and all the dirty hobos will be stinking out the bookies...

Take care.

STAY STRONG

£FAST life.

A good day with no thoughts of gambling at all. Fun day with the kids and with them in bed, have just enjoyed a golfing master class from Rory McIlroy! Be pleased to shoot 62 half way round that course.

Take care all

Morning All

A gamble free weekend. Still got the same notes in my wallet that I had last Tuesday night, which was the last time I gambled. Been a while since that's happened.

Need to go out and about a bit today. Have said a few times before that Tuesdays were/are my weakness.

Going to leave cards behind today and just take a bit of cash for what I need to do.

Not going to give in this time. Too much to do. Too many other things to enjoy.

Have a good day all

To quote others;

I CANNOT WIN BECAUSE I CANNOT STOP!

Never, ever was a phrase more true.

Onwards to week 2.
