After 17 years of gambling I really have had enough. It has controlled my life for too long. This is my diary of not gambling. Today I gambled my last 100 in a slot machine chasing a win. Never got a single win. Always struggled with gambling but now is the time for me to give it up before it destroys me for food.
Any advice on going cold turkey would be appreciated.
Hello Gamblor31,
Well done on starting a diary. Hopefully sharing peer support here on the forum will help your progress. If you'd like to use local support too, you can call us on 0808 8020 133 for details of local counselling or GA meetings.
About going cold turkey, another way of looking at it is that you are liberating yourself from problem gambling and now to stand to benefit from living your life gambling-free. Our forum members sometimes post about how their lives were becoming unmanageable due to problem gambling, and recovery has allowed them to develop more stability and balance in their lives. There is a lot of practical advice here: http://www.gamcare.org.uk/get-advice/what-can-you-do
You might like to join a challenge thread in the 'Overcoming' section of the forum too, as they can offer a lot of camaraderie.
Take care,
Forum admin.
