Been a Horse Racing fanatic - I had my last bet on Gold Cup day of the Cheltenham Festival, I decided to stop betting thereafter and 4 weeks on I have done so well not to have a bet and move on with my life but Im finding it so hard not to have a bet at Aintree! Its occupied my mind for the last couple of days, I keep thinking of all the benefits since Ive stopped gambling and I know I have to stay strong but its not easy.

Congratulations on 4 weeks without gambling.

Ideally you need to have no access to money or nowhere you can place a bet.

Your right in thinking it's not easy for a compulsive gambler to stop gambling, but than again it's not impossible. There is plenty of support and advice on the diaries which might help.

Wishing you well...stephen

Thankyou for taking the time to post Stephen, your advice is greatly appreciated.

Your right it’s not impossible, it just requires a lot of determination and inner strength to draw on, I managed to get through Aintree without having a bet, it was hard but I did it and now that has passed I feel a sense of achievement and today I have had no thoughts about gambling. It’s all a learning process and a journey but hopefully a journey for the better away from gambling.

Thanks again for posting and well done on your 46 consecutive days gambling free, keep it up mate - you can do it too.

Day 34 gf, since Aintree has passed I’ve had no thoughts or urges to want to bet, just keep reminding myself of all the benefits from been gambling free and also what drove me to abstain from gambling. I’m also a firm believer in if I stay good and don’t bet then good things will hopefully happen to me. Another day in the sunshine of been gambling free, keep it up everyone.

Day 39 gf, had my 5th counselling session today and really enjoying the encouragement and belief I get from those sessions. No thoughts of gambling today, watched the Liverpool v Roma game tonight, Liverpool 5-0 up doing well and let Roma get 2 late goals to give them a glimmer of hope going into the 2nd leg but as I was watching it and as the game ended I reflected on that game of football similar to a gambling addiction recovery in the sense of Liverpool been 5-0 up is everything going well and doing all the right things and then letting in 2 late goals and giving Roma half a chance is like letting your guard down because as we all know if you do this the addiction will exploit and take over again and take away everything you’ve worked so hard to do so stay positive everyone, keep thinking and dreaming higher and really kick gambling into touch because life is so much more rewarding without it.
