Thanks for the posts Gregg and Sandra,

Have just had, what is becoming for me, a relatively normal day.

I was intending to take a break from my diary today, but I dipped into the forum a few times and realised that the habit of coming here on a daily basis is all good medicine for maintaining my strength. Plus, I also wanted to offer Sandra some much needed support as well, as she has supported me for so long, that she has become one of the golf balls in my mayonnaise jar!! Cheesy I know, but kind of ironic I thought.

I have noticed too that my compulsiveness (not actually sure if that's a word), has still been about. I tend to play 'Words with friends' ( it's a scrabble type game, for those who don't know) on my kindle quite a lot. All challengers welcome!!! My name on there is 'AdeS', should anyone fancy their chances!

And also I play a game called 2048, which is extremely addictive. They are obviously filling a lot of my old gambling time. As I build new habits and move forward....

Keep strong

Ade

Ha, glad you couldn't keep away 🙂 & I think Sandra will be chuffed to hear that she is a golf ball - she's been called a lot worse I don't doubt 😉

I've been neglecting my Word Friends since I found here but I too suffer the same 'cravings' so I will not be touching 2048 no matter how tempting it sounds!

Don't you just love it when a day turns out nice again 🙂

Thanks Juuuuuuuune, Sandra, Duncs and Suzanne for your supportive posts.

Funny old start to the day. I'm off work today and had plans for a fun day with my daughter's. But unfortunately my youngest has been chundering since 6.30a.m and is now all pale and washed up on the sofa under a blanket.

Looks like I'll be Florence Nightingale today then. Cold flannel, calpol and cuddles at the ready.....

Keep strong all

Florence

Just a reminder......

I AM ADDICTION
I start in small subtle promising many ways things,
I promise you enjoyment and pleasure beyond your wildest dreams,
I deliver guilt and despair more horrible than your worst nightmare,
I promise you power and courage,
I give you feelings of powerlessness & hopelessness,
I will force you to live in fear always,
I promise you relief and escape from all your daily problems,
I create for you greater problems than you ever imagined,
I promise you many friends but
I allow you only isolation.
I promise happiness but
I create much sorrow.
I will steal from you your dignity, your families, your friends, your children.your homes, your demons.your spirit & your life.....For love, freedom & happiness are impossible in my presence.
So NEVER UNDERESTIMATE ME
I am devious & manipulating,
I have no preferences as to who I pick as my victim, rich or poor, young or old, black ,white, yellow or red.
I have killed men, women and children,
I have no conscience.
So if you have met me, always be aware if you think you can beat me... that I will be gone from your life and all will be well again.
NEVER FORGET that I will always be there, waiting in the dark shadows, just around the corner.
I am very patient and I will laugh in your face if I can lure you into my evil world of hell on earth again.

Keep strong all

Thanks for the post Ade. You didnt miss much just 2 cgs stamping their feet & throwing our toys out of the pram because we believed we knew best(now that doesnt sound how we addicts behave does it!). Anyway storm in a teacup.

The addiction poem was given to me early in my days @ GA & has remained in my now not empty wallet ever since, battered & bruised like my credit rating. I still take it out to read regularly because it talks about addiction not specifically gambling.

My mind had been trained from a very early age to use addictive behaviours to soothe my emotions, to take away any feeling i felt uncomfortable with to hide behind & to blame when things went wrong. From sucking my thumb way past what was considered ok to nailbiting, smoking, girls, drugs, alcohol, computer games, food, shopping & of course my personal favorite gambling i have used them all. Today i can still find ways to let addiction in occasionally through work to avoid a situation @ home, nicotine is still used as well as caffeine, i can also end up spending too much time on my phone playing games etc. Generally i can usually spot when i am using these things to avoid what is troubling me & go about doing what i have found is the only thing that works for me long term & that is facing up to what is troubling me @ the time.
Addiction was always my solution never the core of my problem.
I just had to find new solutions

Thanks for the posts. Much appreciated ad usual.

Day 87 in a series of infinity......

Have spent most of the day nursing my sickly 8 year-old daughter. Cleaning up sick isn't one of my favourite pastimes on a day off work, but hey ho, it could be worse. I could be sitting at my laptop gambling on virtual horses in between my sick clearing up duties couldn't I. Now that really would be sick, wouldn't it?!!....

Eldest daughter has gone to a friend's for the afternoon, and I am left here to update my recovery diary whilst youngest sleeps off her last bile eruption. I have been twitching out of the kitchen window (which incidentally could do with a good clean Suzanne!) , watching the robins scared shiteless by the swooping angry parakeets. The squirrels still keep nibbling at my nuts, whilst the fat pigeons just hoover up the lawn of what's left.

Hopefully I will find time for a few cold beers tonight, as long as I'm not in the local paediatric ward with a sickly golf ball that is!!

Keep strong all

Ade

Heh...golf ball wasn't clear on that one..sozzz..

Ok..ship wars is a logic game where you have to shoot your opponents ship down. You have a bomb and shoot it over..if ship is only damaged and not sank , you have to guess which way to go to get it sinked...if you miss and shoot in the water your opponents turn next 🙂

Now...lol..this game maybe a little old and last i played it i was around 20yrs ago lol...times changing, kids in the heart don't! 🙂

Hope your lil golf ball will feel better soon and you can have enjoyable eve with the family.

Look after you

Sandra x
