Just got home after a long day: work and my evening language class followed by a trip to Pizza Express with a friend. I am now lying down on my bed with my baby sleeping next to me in his cot. Feeling relaxed. I know I am still in debt and that my debts are the legacy of my gambling, but the amount is reducing each month and I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Looking back to where I was when I started this journey: I was mentally sick and consumed by gambling (loss chasing); I did not sleep properly; I did not eat properly; I lied about money; I wasted money; I lost sight of the value of money; I ignored my friends; I made no effort with my wife or family; instead I became a sad, lonely, secretive, unhealthy and ill-tempered individual with high blood pressure and chaotic finances. I am never going back there. Awful.

It is 7 months until Christmas and my current Experian Credit Score is 907 (Good). It has gone up by 89 points since last month, mainly because I have not made any applications for credit in the last six months. The amount of outstanding debt is £7,894 (down from last month's figure of £8,700).

Do you have a target for being debt-free?

Christmas Day 2012 is my ideal debt-free day. Otherwise, it will probably be early next year. The latter is more realistic but less satisfying.

Xmas 2012 is great. Good for you! I envy you (in a good way). I sometimes think the hard part is when we're solvent - more temptation, I mean. That's when we're more likely to just have a dabble. I hope you keep up the diary, I intend to.
