Some thoughts creeping in about sports betting. Funny to think I'm going to have to be on my guard for the rest of my life to beat this

I think its more a change of mind set. As a sports bettor myself i found sport became something i looked at as a knowledge test that could possibly make me money. I still watch a lot of football but now im learning to enjoy it for the other buzz it can provide without money riding on the outcome. Im enjoying the drama and contest of it all again. I just have to remember this is how it must be from here forwards for me to contiune to enjoy sports. As long as i don't place that first bet i can watch on in peace.

Unfortunately the thoughts of gambling will be with us forever but we can defeat it and control it! Sports betting was my foremost activity, simply because I don't trust the gambling industry, so therefore my theory was that with millions of pounds riding on every premiership match it cannot possibly be fixed. If I had the bottle and a correct hunch then nothing could stop me from winning. In essence this is still true, but so is the fact that we are destined to lose more than we win.

Thanks both for the comments I definitely familiar with both thoughts. My sports betting was so bad I didn't enjoy watching sport that much in the end. I used to have so many bets on I couldn't even follow them all. I don't miss the Saturday afternoon being let down at last minute feeling

Day 45 almost at 50. Great weekend with no real urges of gambling managed to sit and watch football Saturday afternoon. 2 months ago I genuinely couldn't ever see myself go through a Saturday without having a range of bets on. Feeling good that at least that urge has gone. Wednesday is payday so I will also have been payday to payday without a bet so that's big

Day 50 really proud to get here. Next stop 100 days.
Had one sticky moment walking past a bookies on Thursday with 10 pound in my pocket. Same people in the bookies as always feeding the money into the machines I wanted to pull them out of there but I know I would've told someone to mind their own business if they had tried to stop me a few months back.
Just want to wish everyone on here a healthy happy gamble free Christmas my aim to is be back here the Same time next year still gamble free

Well done Crossintheroad, I am on Day 69 so we're roughly at the same point in our recoveries. Keep up the good work and I'll check in with you closer to day 100 to pat you on the back!

Thanks willsy feels great to be back under some sort of control. I thought I'd check in as I was shopping online for some new clothes deciding whether or not to spend 50 quid on a new top when 3 months ago that would be one spin on the roulette wheel. Gambling alters your mind and you're not in touch with reality money wise. Less than 3 months off gambling and I see my finances recovering what sort of position will I be in a year from now? So much better if I can keep it up which I intend to. Anyone who is finding it tough at the moment keep going I literally could never see an end to me gambling and part of me didn't want to because I enjoyed it. But it was taking it's toll on me and I came to breaking point. Next stop 100 days let's do this!

Day 73 edging closer to triple digits I think I have only ever done thus once before. Far less stress in my life but seem to spend far too much time looking at pointless stuff on my phone. Completed my first gym session of the year today so looking forward to getting into that and being more productive on my weekends. The year has started well so hopefully I can stick with my resolutions this year

Just read your diary . You are doing really well. Only real comment I have would be to try and see this as a great opportunity to thrive . You use the language a lot of “if” I can go so long gambling free . Try and write it down as “when” . Positive thoughts being sent to you !!

Good point vulture I'll do that. I've trained every day this week so I'm putting my mind into action. I've put on approx 3 stone, gambling has played a part a big win and I'll splurge on takeaways booze whatever a loss and sulk with a takeaway and a few drinks. Vicious circle. I will keep up the exercise and I will make this year gamble free

Day 80. Decided to check 2 credit cards which I've been paying off and found the balance was about 1500 quid higher than what I though. Sickened me but at least now things are on the mend. I had years of promising to clear the cards I'd always lose all my cash and put everything on the card. This is the first time in years where I can say I've made 3 months of payments of what I planned and have not put a penny back on. Things are recovering slowly just wish I'd come to my senses sooner.
I'm not getting down about it, 3 months ago I would have tried to gamble and win it back and end up in a worse position. Onwards and upwards

Apart from the blip on your credit card it sounds like everything is looking up for you.
I love to read about people treating themselves to something that they wouldn't dream of buying whilst gambling. It's something many people take for granted but for us, it certainly gives us a boost.
Keep up the good work, I'll look forward to congratulating you on your 100 days!!
All good wishes X
