Hi Matt,

I just read all the your post from the beginning to the end . I never read such an inspirational story / journey . And I've not realise I've spent " 6 hours" absorbing and treasuring every moment of your journey . Thank you very much for sharing it all to us . I've not cried for a long time ! I mean a long time ! But this one just hit me real hard . I'm currently 13 days GF and tomorrow is a big deal for me as it's a two weeks milestone . My story is I've started 5-6 years ago when my nan died won big and lot it all the next year . Then lost again about 2 grand the following year then completely stopped gambling as got married then last year lost 2 grand but only gambled twice felt so guilty ! This year I've already gambled twice lost 2 grand in January which my wife knows and she forgave me ! But 13 days ago I lost 3 grand and not told her 🙁 as I'm scared that she'll get really mad at me .. we have a little boy (15 months old) .. I mean I'm not in debt as have a decent job I guess .. my fear is we have a massive savings of 45 grand which can all disappear if I continue with my gambling problem/addiction . 13 days ago I joined this group .. the forum , chat room , co - addicts /gamblers, and advisers really helped to keep me straight . Thank you for inspiring me .. and with regards to your shoulder avoide external rotation exercises and do plenty of isometric exercises .. search it on YouTube to get an idea .. - I'm a physiotherapist & a gambler .

Much repect buddy!

Sars

Day 256

Triple figures just over a week away for you Sharon, I hope you have a little drink or treat yourself next Saturday and pat yourself on the back when you get there.

Hi Sars, thanks for taking the time to read my diary and thanks also for the shoulder advice, I will definitely take a look. I hope my story can give you some encouragement that it can be done. Day by day is the way. As you can probably tell I have found this site invaluable for getting my thoughts and feelings out and the support received has been amazing on here. My advice to you is keep going, you can never win when gambling, eventually we all end up losing, whether it be financially or yourself as a person. I lost a hell of a lot of money, sleep, people I loved and myself to the illness. Go get some councelling, tell your friends and family and if you can't trust yourself with those savings give your wife the keys to the safe so to speak. Do not risk your families future security and enjoy that little boy and your wife, their love will get you through.

Tomorrow is my 37th Birthday. I am throwing a big party/BBQ at my house. All my friends and family who have helped get me through this are coming to help me celebrate my independence, my bday, being gamble free and of course being the happiest I truly have ever been. I wouldn't have got to this point without this diary so I will most definitely raise a glass at some point and toast you lot.

Take care all, stay Gamble free it is the only way.

Matt

Day 259

Thank you for the Bday wishes and kind words. I had a great day Saturday. Perfect BBQ weather and getting all my friends and family together was fun. A few of the lads stayed so we hit the town later which was a good laugh too.

Yesterday I spent the morning with my friends who stayed and then the afternoon clearing up the bomb site that was my house, well worth the pain though for such a nice day/night, one of the best Birthday's I have had.

Stay strong everyone and I hope everyone can enjoy this stunning weather.

Thanks Loxxie. Yeah it has been some journey as we know but it definitely feels like I had to go through it to get where I am today and appreciate everything more.

Hope all is good with you.

Dear Matt,

I have just read your diary in its entirety. My! What a journey you have walked. I am actually lost for words. You have travelled to the deepest, darkest depths of despair, and with courage, explored every nook and cranny of the dangers lurking in your mind, watered the ground with your tears, committed every last shred of your energy and grew your wings once again. Now you are flying. I'm moved to tears at what you have accomplished and the pain you endured. But I am so unbelievably happy for you that every bit of pain and suffering has been paid off a hundredfold in joy, freedom, love and inspiration.

You have shown me just how deep the rabbit hole can go, and just how much can be lost. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your committment to documenting your journey, it has strengthened my resolve and cleared any little specks of delusion left from my eyes.

You are truly a hero.
