I am 27 years old, I started gambling at the end of November 2023. Before that I had never thought about gambling, I always knew that people lose money so it never attracted me. Then I saw an ad on Instagram where people were making a lot of money from online casinos and I fell into the trap. Today I don't even have money to pay this month's rent and I have banned myself from all gambling websites and I can't gamble in an online casino anymore.

How can I start again financially even though I have a job, ill have to wait until the end of this month to get myself and pay this month's rent and next month's rent with my upcoming salary because I lost my current salary to gambling. I have tried to seek help or get a loan, but no one lends money to people who have made deposits on gambling websites in their bank statements. I thank god the situation is not so bad, I know some people sell their houses and other bad situations. I am currently -1600 euros

Please let me know how can I reset

Hello alejandrorecover

Thank you for sharing this on the forum.

It sounds like you’re in a really stressful situation with not having enough money for this month’s rent. But well done for taking steps to ban yourself and seeking support. This will help you get out of the vicious circle that is easy to slip into with gambling, losing money and chasing losses.

If you’re based in the UK, the information on the Citizens UK website around struggling to pay your rent could be useful to you. We have also produced a factsheet on debt advice and support with details of organisations in the UK that offer support and guidance.

You could talk to someone on our Helpline on 0808 8020 133 or through our 1:1 Livechat to get some information about further sources of help and support around all this and we also run a Money Guidance Service for people based in the UK (you can phone our Helpline number and they can refer you to the service). The Money Guidance Service doesn’t offer financial advice but the team are there to support and guide you.

I really hope you can get some help with this and well done again for reaching out for support.

Ellen

OK my friend, o*g your so young, imagine if you can fast forward 30 years and you had been doing this month in month out, going on holiday but not to the places you want to go to, living in a house , maybe on your own, because you have lied and cheated to get money off your loved ones, that's half the house you should be in, eating smart price food, instead of the best, you can go on and on, just reset by looking forward, your 1600 euros will seem nothing

So be honest with yourself, find something to do that will cover the time, you might gamble, think of someone looking at your bank statement and laughing at all those lost deposits, you have done well banning yourself, but you need to look forward , 1600 is gone, but say to yourself , no more , its hard I  know ,I've failed lots of times, but take it from me, don't be me, in 30 years have that nice life, you cant reset.

That's how you reset, your not going to be me, I will be looking down or up at you and thinking you did good and you wasn't me

All my best wishes LCS
