Cheers for the post Captain.

I'm glad you liked the t-shirt. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you are not the manager of your local mcdonalds!

Keep up the good work mate. It must be a good 6 weeks now since you had a flutter on the virtual racing. Do you look back and think how crazy it was that you were betting £100 a time on a cartoon race? I was more a £20 man on the virtual myself but i think even that was mad on reflection!

Keep up the good work captain. There is nothing virtual about a loser.

Hi Captain,

Just read through your posts as Curly told me you are a runner. Good time for 5km mate. Well done. I hope to get back to fitness soon and maybe get through the great north run this year.

Good to see that your method is working for you and that you are remaining positive.

Stay Strong

Steve

Captain, a lot of respect for the gym work - I'm way out of the habit these days.

I won't say I've read too much of your diary but I know you contribute regularly. Just got one thing to say - you clearly have moved on from your gambling days and are putting your time and effort into strengthening your body and mind rather than something that will rot them both away slowly - well done indeed.

Long may it continue - Matt

Hi Tough Manager C,

I would imagine you may still be on your lunch hour...wandering around looking at the blue sky......or hanging around the boring books in the library....or you may be back at your desk cracking the whip! Whatever it is....it's better than wasting your hard earned cash on random gambling.

You have always been upfront about your attitude towards your recovery. It would appear your sensible gambling is working for you and that is all that matters. Only you know you...if you understand me? I'm sure, if it goes a bit off track you are strong enough to recognise this and to do whatever it needs to sort it out. Soz to go on.

"Love, Love, Love".....are the points even now 'cause i got 3 Loves in the title? Rather good i thought :-))

Day 38 - today my thoughts are drawn to the subject of what many of us have tried to achieve through gambling. I have read that we are trying to recreate the feeling of our first win, and that is impossible.

It need not be your first win gambling, could be like me, first time I won a race or scored a goal, for someone else, first time they fell in love, first time they drove a car, played an instrument, whatever.

But perhaps we were all subconciously trying to recreate a first feeling of total happiness, complete joy, and whilst winning at gambling may give you a short term feelgood factor, it rarely lasts.

But you can still remember how you felt so happy at your 'first', whatever that was, and you'd do anything to experience that again first hand rather than only as a memory.

Food for thought and opinion.

Cheers for the post Captain.

You do not need me to spread the word regarding your athletic prowess mate. You do a fine job on your own. I applied for a job as your PR man today only to be told that you had already filled the position yourself.

I'm laughing at your post on my diary mate. £300 on a 6/4 certainty and it was a cartoon! I'm glad you are leaving those days long behind you mate!

I popped into chat before to see you mate but you were not there. I thought you were in there every night? It was a good session though.

Keep up the good work mate. I'm sure there might be one or two people who doubt you can succeed on your chosen path. I trust you will keep proving any doubters wrong.

Hi Captain,

Interesting post today mate, maybe food for thought. Hope you are keeping your RG urges under control and are staying positive. Thanks for posting on my diary and I hopefully can get back quickly after this injury and get ready for the GNR. I've heard it's nearly as hard as London marathon, is this true???

Stay Strong

Steve

Hope all is well Captain, and that you are resisting any RG,i'm sure you are.If you've had a bet on the soccer tonight i hope it has been thought out and planned in advance,i guess you are keeping your stakes to a"sensible" amount and not increasing them after a loss.

Day 39 - I wake up feeling frustrated at being unlucky with last night's football bet - 1 selection wrong.

The weather is a nightmare today, I skid in the snow on the way to work, then at lunchtime I have to drive somewhere, pop in to a couple of shops then drive back again - heavy snow means no walking, bad weather would normally mean go to bookies, but then of course so would bright sunshine in the past.

I think back though and conclude that I started going to the bookies more at lunchtime in inclement weather. Also long before virtual racing and south african racing, there was no horse racing at lunchtime in the summer, with the first british race being around 2.00.

At that point in my life, I was only interested in betting horses and football, long before I would get to the stage of betting almost anything the bookies

were offering.

Cant go back to that life now. But cant have the stupid lunchtime routine I had today, need to come up with something more productive to do at lunchtime in inclement weather.

I today also remembered a 3rd type of gambling for me. I not doing any random gambling. I am only doing advance sports bets. The 3rd type is 'have an interest because you are watching the event'. This thought comes into play as I intend to watch Inter v Chelsea, but I conclude this is only marginally better than random - I didnt select the match when studying midweek football so although I could make a selection, so I elect not to bet, just watch the game.

Stopped watching the game now as the bet I was gonna place was Inter Half time and Full time - aargh - lesson - which I should know by now - if you even consider an advance sports bet - put it on.

Interesting post captain and you have answered (by default) what i was getting at,that you may start thinking about having the "interest bets" just because it's on TV,which is on the verge of random......,i have watched the game tonight and whilst your prediction was right it easily may not have been as Chelsea should have been awarded a clear cut penalty at the end of the first half.I hope the fact that you could have won doesn't trouble your thoughts.

WOw Captain - a man after my own heart. I would spread bet on football, cricket, super 14 rugby etc etc etc just for interest. What a joke. Tonight I took my wife to a concert, have just got in and have only just got to know the results - unheard of in my world 7 days ago!!!

Anyway, it sounds as if you gamble for exactly the same reason as me - boredom.

I read true crime books or play silly games on my mobile phone to pass the time if I get an urge. It just helps pass the time before the urge goes away (or you aren't bored anymore because lunchtime is over)

Day 40 - this is worst I have felt in almost 6 weeks of not random gambling. I dont sleep well and when I do I dream that I am having an operation and I then wake up in a cold sweat.

This is all caused by not placing an advance bet on the Chelsea game. I convinced myself it was an interest bet rather than a proper advance sports bet, but although it was a hunch, it proved correct and I feel like I have lost money. It also ended up preventing me from watching much of the game after Inter took the lead.

Lesson - if I intend to watch a sports event and I have a hunch, put it on, for small stakes. But dont go down the road of forcing a bet just cause I am watching - that would be interest only category.

I should know this by now, for me, the feeling when I predict something correctly and dont put it on is 5 times worse than betting and losing. Difference is when I've experienced this in the past its been because I've lost so much random gambling that I've not put the bet on. Now thats not the case, I've no excuse, I need to follow my gut feeling....

Youve got to bet on what you want

On all that you believe

Its right to bet on what I want

And live the way I please

As long as I have done my best

Then no one can do more

Contentment and happiness

Are well worth fighting for

Morning C,

To Dream of an Operation

To dream that you are having an operation, suggests that you need to get something out of your system or cut it out of your life. Perhaps you need to let go of something or change your habits.

I don't know if you are into dream interpretation stuff but I thought this was rather apt in your situation.

Hey C, please try not to get wound up and angry with yourself about last nights lost opportunity. What would have happened if you had put a bet on it and it had gone the other way...would you have been feeling the same today? I've had loads of missed winning opportunities...problem is we only see the winning.

Stick to your plan and lets have you looking up at that blue sky again....foggy here today though.

"Love to Love You Baby"

Jas xx

Mmmm....another 2xLove in the title...half a point to Jas haha 🙂
