Hi Captain. Thanks for your post in my diary. I am worried about you caving into the urge to do random bets. DON'T DO IT! You will definitely lose in the long run. You seem to be getting a bit of a hard time from a few members. I guess they are concerned for u and judging by your last post they should be!I manged to collect money and walk out yesterday. I am excited about the prospect of controling this. This is my only outlet now as I have stoppped attending G.A due to my return to gambling. Have you managed to not think about gambling even when you are not placing a bet. Seano made this point. It is a problem it its on your mind all the time. I have been like that before but currentlly I'm not in that place thankfully. I have an advanced bet planned for tonights football and will take a break for FA cup weekend. Hope you don't cave in a nd leave me a lone ranger in our quest!! 😉

Day 24

At the start of today I am worried about getting another strong urge after yesterday.

Work is quiet and no stress at all. No urges at all. Put yesterday down to it being payday and having to handle large amounts of cash.

I can leave work at 3.45. Amazingly I consider my options. In days gone by there would have been only one option - straight to the bookies. I know I need a haircut - I phone and luckily they can fit me in. I drive there in perfect peace with no thoughts of gambling. I get a new style, well I am a new man!

I get into the car, put the radio on. 'Dont Stop Believin' comes on.

'I wont' I think, 'I wont'.

Hope I have turned some kind of corner today. By Saturday it will be 4 weeks.

Mmmm a nice new hair cut...you got a date or something? Next it will be manicures and spray tan 😉

Thank you for those lovely words on my diary...actually made my day!

4 weeks nearly.....when you came here did you think it was possibly C? I was worried you may die of boredom lol. I hope to see those 4 weeks develop into months and then years....if that's what you really want? For now let's be thankful you have managed another day without random gambling on a pile of c r a P.

Captain, who are any of us to say what is right and wrong for you. It is your life and you have to decide what is best for you. I think the way you walked out of the bookies was commendable and if you feel you can control what you do then fair play to you as I know that most of us could not.

I was passing my local bookies tonight---I have not set foot in there for 10 weeks. There was only one punter in there and the girl behind the counter was reading a book and looked totally P****d off. The guy in there was playing the fobt's as he always does--never saw him place a bet of any kind--really wanted to go in there--not to bet but to tell him that he has no chance on these machines in the long term he has to lose. Decided not to go in as I felt that his business is his business and quite frankly I do not want to go in there at all at this time--I do not want to be tempted.

Whatever you do mate good luck to you but remember

I CANNOT WIN BECAUSE I CANNOT STOP

Day 26 - I dont sleep well, I finally give up at 330am and thats me up for the day. For for the first time in a few weeks, gambling is the last thought I have when I go to bed and the first thought when I wake. This used to be the norm.

The reason is a feeling of loss and emptiness in my stomach due to a lost midweek football bet. (On a scale of 1 to 10 this is a 3 loss, random gambling has left me at 10 all too often in the past ).

All of my selections except one have been successful, so I do have returns coming back but this one result would have meant a significantly higher return.

In my view when I get a selection wrong on football (based on purely selecting the overall match result), there are 3 reasons why I can be wrong:

1. Bad Luck

2. A shock result

3. My own analysis has been careless

1 and 2 happen, thats life and acceptable albeit frustrating at times. 3 is unacceptable so I beat myself up about it.

This time was a 3. I am determined to do better on Saturday. Is this 'chasing losses'? Maybe a little.

I'm still in a much better place than I would be if I was continuing doing random gambling though.

My my...you were up early C!

I hope you aren't tempted back into the random gambling following your recent loss. I think you know what to do C. Stay safe.

Hey Captain. Cheers for post in my diary. I understand your point but I've realised even through my going back since Saturday that I keep changing the rules for myself as I go along. That isn't control in my book. Last night was my first good nights sleep in 3 days and that was because i knew i wasn't going to have a bet today. I knew midweek bets were dodgy but the compulsive nature in me needed to do it as I knew there would be no full premiership programme for a week and a half. I see the powerless in that "need" to place a bet. I don't trust my own head about decision making. Maybe for a week or 2 its ok but then i lose the plot. No different this time. My system can't work now cause the bookies have changed the rules completely. I have to stop but wish you all the best in your pursuit of controlled gambling. I don't think its worth it to have lack of sleep and angry feelings when your bet loses. You got a return but were still P i s s e d off about that one selection. Its no good for the head in my opinion.

Hi Captain

A feeling of loss and emptiness in my stomach. These are familiar feelings m8 and getting up at 3-30 because you feel that way.I know you wont feel that way as often as you used to.But surely not at all would be better.Im not sure what your win percentage rate was like kid but if you lost say 7 bets out of 10 in a week then the odds are that you will lose 7 out of 10 over 10 weeks. its just spread out over a longer time. the percentage stays the same (theoretically).I think you are doing really well captain, but i think you could stop completely. All the best Jeff.

yes pity i was late i hadnt really checked out the chat times...look forward to another one...i read the gambling industry love systems..the card counting at blackjack, betting this way that way...people studying systems and trying another one...only way to win is to stop...or to be really lucky and then dont play again.... im sticking to just buying the odd lotto ticket...might get really lucky there..

I'll just remind you of your first post cause I'm worried for u! "

"never tried to stop completely before, only to limit myself to advance sports bets but have taken advice to try and stop completely as I can just stick to sports bets, end up doing other random bets at bookmakers and lose all my money."

Notice how you said "can" instead of "can't" Was that a freudian slip?!!!

It may work for weeks months or by some miracle years but eventually It will come back to bite you. It is a progressive illness. Amounts will get bigger losses will be higher. Eventually you will slip into the masterpiece. Check out a song called one thousand kisses deep by Leonard Cohen on you tube. Its a great song to do with gambing and very true in my opinion.
