These two links are about changing behaviour. This first one, I found, gets going about half way through (it's about 20 min) and delivers a powerful message (at least to me). I'm never gonna feel like it!

And this one makes behaviour change seem manageable:

Really liked the motivational talk Carl thanks for sharing it.

I have just finished reading a good book, it can get a bit complicated in places but the principals are great the chimp paradox.

I was wondering if it would be good to maybe also use this thread to maybe also talk about 12 step programmes and our experience and understanding of them ?

Thank you for taking the time to post everyone, some great reading, and really helpful stuff,

Take care

Found this buried in the depths of the Gamcare website. Its a talk from Jon Grant from a Gamcare conference last year. Wouldn't think of posting it here seeing as its on this very website but its only had 60 odds so makes me think people have missed it.

Another 40 min motivational video... why some people achieve "massively" and others don't. The focus is on finances, but the message is really applicable to anything.

Just a little story. I think everyone needs to learn to feed the good...

Two Wolves: A Cherokee Teaching

An elderly Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life...

He said to them, "A fight is going on inside me, it is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

One wolf is evil -- he is fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, competition, superiority, and ego.

The other is good---he is joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.

This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too."

They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied: "The one you feed".

Hi there,

Just thought I'd throw this one in to the mix as something that I've pondered a couple of times. It's a poem called the magician's assistant, and while there is a version with a musical backing, this is the spoken work version.

Suicidal thoughts have hit me more than once, particularly in my early twenties when I was busily going off the rails with drink and drugs instead of gambling. While i found this poem later, it kind of sums up all the reasons I would never be able to do it. Thanks Carla for suggesting I post it here.
