Day 3 (1st entry)
Thought i would start a diary on here as I've read through many and I think it will help greatly.
I haven't gambled since Friday but i have had many urges. I read through an article on urges and have been using techniques suggested to distract myself and so far so good...no gambling!
After a certain amount of Dutch courage on Saturday night I managed to tell my girlfriend of my addiction and she has been nothing but supportive, a huge weight off my shoulders. But I don't want her to feel like she has to worry about me, she has a child from a previous relationship and I don't want her to feel like I'm just another worry in her already busy life!
i have arranged for an assessment with someone from 'break even' on Friday so hopefully this will be productive and help me on my route to beating this horrible addiction.
Day 4
woke up today and was waiting for my girlfriend to arrive...get a text saying she's running late and my first thought was 'great I get a bit of time to run down the bookies'. I didn't I can on here instead but the urges are going to take a while to go I think.
I think the real test will start tomorrow when I have a couple of days off work while all my friends and family are out. Will be hoping to keep busy maybe a bit of golf and fishing is on the cards to clear the mind as I definitely think my betting is a case of 'the devil makes work for idol hands'
Hiya Ant, welcome to the forum, and congratulations on making a solid start. There are some great people here can offer some really good support and advice. Try and stay strong today, use this forum and have a read through some diaries for inspiration. Put as many barriers in place to stop you gambling, maybe you could self exclude from all the bookies in your area and let your girlfriend look after your bank cards. Its always good to be busy on days off work, fishing is a much better way of spending your time than going to a bookies. Good luck, hope to see this diary grow.
