*** Good evening! ***
It's been really great reading the spirited posts tonight. Like all of us, I'm a teensy bit tired, so just a quick update tonight, but wonderful to hear the positivity which feeds and nourishes us all.
Let's have a Boxing Day to remember too. We all know how we need to start the day: a 'glug' of our special 'potion', that simple vow that means so much -
"Just for today we choose not to gamble".
That's all it's going to take.Â
Today we're holding firm - let's stay there.
And we'll worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.
But we're prepared for what we need to do.Â
Goodnight!
Mixer
Right ive just sent a text to my friend who I gamble with and told the that I wont be joining the social club this year for snooker (nd fruit machines) and if I see him in the new year it will be in a coffee shop not a pub as I don't drink and fruit machines do my head in literally from the moment I step in a pub until the moment I leave. Now there's one ale bar I can go to with mates if they like a drink which doesn't have a fruit machine and ill just stay clear of pubs and go to restaurants with friends but if that fails just be on the super guard no plan is full proof and rome wasn't built in a day was it. So im very thankfull that joining this club has shown me the way thru December and that ive successded so far much down to luck, determination and knowing when im about to stumble. Â
Â
So Ill not go to pub for spurs game tomo ill listen on the radio and ease my way into a fruit machine free life. Boy do I hope they get rid of them thru exposure of the benefits of not having them in our culture.
Â
Lets do this one day at a time, today I haven't gambled and it was the nicest feeling to realise when I woke up that i'd not gambled the day before. Long may that continue if i could bottle that feeling and sell it in the shops id be a millionaire lol
Â
Lets roll forward to a great happy new years and the start of something great in 2020.
You've got this covered Adam. Good plan ?
Â
Boo x
Â
That's brilliant Adam with out change you will not change. I feel that you have clearly changed for the good. So happy for you mate. Just keep going the way you are going. Have a great boxing day and a great New year Adam and everyone else on here. ?
Well done adam, you are putting plans in to place to prevent g******* from even happening , 1 step at a time mate day by day.
I woke up feeling elated, my partner last night asked me to move back in. I've been living away from her and the kids for almost a month now and its brought me and partner down, the words out of her mouth was the best Christmas present I could ever wish for. ?
I'm in a really happy now, well we all are in the household and that's the way I want it to stay, I've took so many things for granted in life and life itself is one of them.
I wish you all a great boxing day, I'll be out working for amazon in a moment delivering people's food shopping ?.
Today I make a simple vow, today I shall not gamble.
Â
*** Good morning! ***
Â
And here we all are this Boxing Day! I hope you enjoyed yesterday and the comparative peace of mind we get when we're tuned to recovery. Personally, I'm never happier when slumped in front of the telly in the evening and especially enjoyed Gavin and Stacey - well-written, I thought, with real pathos and humour. Very recommended if you haven't seen it.
I'm not usually into the soaps but quickly got sucked into Emmerdale and Corrie - wow, the latter was dramatic!!! Didn't try Eastenders this year - I'm sure though it's as cheery as always ...!
I hope, whatever, you did, it was a pleasant day.
All we need to do today is make a vow: Just for today, I choose not to gamble. Â
There's a lot of sport on today, but let's enjoy the activity - be in football, rugby, whatever - for the right reasons. The skill, the atmosphere, the emotion, the tactics, the players, the managers ... whether a team win, draws or loses let's not turn in it into the sterile experience that g****ing makes it.
You might be thinking, after the game, "I'd've won that" but remember that (a) you might have lost too and (b) so what, you would carry on till you lost, and then lost some more. That's what compulsive g***ing is. So what's the point?
Ignore the g***ing adverts on the telly. Whose behind them? Are they rich companies wanting to get richer? Whose the winner? Yep, they are, but you are in you ignore them.
***
Adam, Danpo - excellent plans and progress, gentlemen. Remember: "If you do your best, everything will be for the best." Keep sharing and keep going!

*** Good evening! ***
Another g******-free day under our belts, everyone? Let's finish today on a high!
Steven - a wonderful little ditty, as always!
Tomorrow, the 27th, let's get ready to see the rest of this year through in positive fashion, one day at a time.
We know what to do, and why.Â
What - "Just for today, as I settle into the first day of 'Betwixtmas, I choose not to g*****. Whether I 'want' to is irrelevant and I refuse to be distracted. I'm choosing not to."
Why - because we want to choose life as it should be lived, rather than abject misery which is where we will otherwise head, because we know ourselves far too well. We are grateful that we do, because that has enabled us to make the best decision for us - and indirectly, although still importantly - for those people who know us: loved ones, friends, colleagues.
Until tomorrow, friends,
Mixer
Good morning people, your not on your own ineffable I'm also back to work today. It's not to cold today by me so it's not gunna be to bad working on the roofs?.
I'm just thinking I should be grateful of the fact that at least I can work, I've got functioning legs and arms which makes me able to do so?.
Once again I'm feeling fantastic that I havent g****** and kind of excited to share my part at the next ga on the 2nd of january.
I'm now waking up with a clear head and know what I've got to do to be happy which also means keeping my nearest's and dearest's. This feeling is fantastic. Dont need to worry anymore ! Dont need to lie and think of excuses anymore ! Let's admit it we hate that feeling we get and all those thoughts that run through our head. Well I dont want and need them thoughts anymore the thoughts of what the h*ll am I goin to say, how am I going to get out of this one. I just want you to all know the weight has been lifted and i never want or going to have it pushing down on me again.
For today, I am not going to g*****.Â
I wish you all a great day if your not at work make the most of it, kick back and put your feet up.
Peace and love people, keep it real !Â
Was meant to right keeping my nearest'sand dearest's happiness alive.?
That’s so great to hear Danpo.Â
Ive started with a bit of a wobble this morning looking at my finances.Â
But, not g******g is only going to make things better. It can only get better from here, and things won’t happen overnight.Â
Youre right, it’s a great feeling each day, waking up having achieved another day GF.Â
I guess as the weeks GF tot up, the feeling of achievement outweighs anything we used to feel g******g.Â
I wish everyone the happiest of New Years, and together, we will do it!Â
*** Good Morning ***
Clearing our heads
Nope, I'm not talking about any Eggnog/Beer/Wine/Port/Brandy hybrid hangover!!
I'm referring to Danpo's uplifting post from yesterday showcasing the real benefits from, one day at a time, being g***ing free. As he astutely recognises, we're clearing our heads!
I'm going to revisit parts of Danpo's post because it was a particulary good 'un.
"I'm just thinking I should be grateful of the fact that at least I can work, I've got functioning legs and arms which makes me able to do so?."
Life will throw us curveballs and worse, but we're ready to face them with the clear head going g******-free, one day at a time, gives us. It never hurts to remind us what we do have. We're here, we're alive, we have potential!

Isn't that feeling worth it's weight in gold.
Peace and love people, keep it real !Â
Yes; let's keep it real and manageable. Making our vow - just for today is a simple task and manageable.Â
Putting practical measures in place, as part of this, is all part of the prudent preparation we put in place for when we have weak moments. We know we're human, but we know we can anticipate this.Â
We need to be disciplined about this, possibly permanently. But if it works, so be it, because it's well worth it!
Great post, Danpo.

Bertieboo - your post made me think, too.

You're right, we are not going to see certain benefits right away. In particular, financially. This is because we have spent too much and need to 'get back up to par'.Â
However, we still have to live in the meantime and so we will likely find our financial position temporarily worsening, because we obviously have to spend something just to get by.Â
However things will slowly, but surely, tilt back into the black. And, in time, we will be back on a very healthy trajectory. Of course, how long this will take will depend on a lot of factors - starting debt, income etc. but, after the initial 'dip' it will improve. No pain, no gain, as they say - but this is the right path you're taking Bertieboo - trust me.
In my personal situation, although not currently in debt (although I would be very well off if it wasn't for g***ing), I've set 100 days to get back to a kind of parity (to my position at the start Oct 2019) and a long term aspiration of 300 days to get back to where I should have been at the start of 2019. Doing this one day at a time works for me.
So ... stick to the path, Bertieboo.  It's well worth it.

Here's our daily vow. Just stick to this and you'll be Ok!
"Just for today, I have chosen not to g*****. No ifs, no buts. Absolutely resolute; just for today."
Have a great day, everyone.

P.S. There's a problem posting to the Forum at the moment - when you click 'Update' it seems to take ages to accept - about 30 secs. My suggestion - just post in the usual way, and wait 30 secs. If you click update again, you'll have a duplicate post. I've raised the issue with Gamcare.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention Mixer. It's a great suggestion to wait 30 seconds before clicking update until this problem is resolved. In the meantime I have deleted the duplicate posts.
Many thanks for your understanding and support.

Â
Mixer these are just the great feelings and thoughts I'm having at this time, well when I woke up this morning actually?.Mixer it really makes me feel so good and proud of myself that you have taken my post in to consideration that way you have, that's made my day bud.Â
Â
Tbh this forum is massively helping me and I know it doe sthe same for others, I hope that when I reach the 100 days maybe you or someone else would create another thread up to 200 days and so on.
Â
It's such a great feeling as we all know to start the day and tell ourselves that we are not going to g*mble even if it's just for today because we know when we wake up the next day we can repeat the same words and not let this addiction take control of our lives.
Â
I've actually had an early finish on the roofs today, just one flat roof stripped and re felted so thats the graft done for today, I'll be going to do a block of deliveries for amazon around 6 o'clock, that's a 3.5 hour slot hopefully making it back for the wolves vs city game at 7:45?. My partner is kind enough to tag along and help me, what a star she is.
Anyway for today people I'll leave it at that, you know what to do, so do it ???
Affected by gambling?
