I did not realise how much support mattered in recovery during my early attempts to kick the habit. However it was due to the initial support that I am gamble free today. Going back to college and learning to engage with people again has been so fulfilling.
Not only am I in touch with practcal reality but I am in touch with emotional reality. With out Gamcare and the services they provide who knows where I would be now. It is the emotional reality that has given me the most clarity. I am so grateful for the opportunity I have had. I am very proud of the achievments I have made since being gamble free. I wish all those in recovery a life time of happiness and those new to it all, never give up giving up believe in yourselves and get support as early as possible, the world is full of possibilities waiting for you to pick one.

You seemed to have progress further from abstaining from gambling, and have moved on to better things. Attending college, and also interacting positively with people again, and being in touch with both emotional and practical reality. That’s brilliant!
You’ve really worked hard to achieve to this stage, and this shows that it’s possible for one to overcome their gambling problem if they try and follow the strategies, that hard work pays, and that it’s worthwhile to keep trying, and not to give up!
From your story, you seem to be on plus, plus journey to recovery, and I think there’s still more room for improvement, so go for it, zulu13.

Just a catch up.Got accepted into university. Absolutely extatic! If someone had of said to me 4 years ago when I first started recovery that I would be attending university and changing my whole life I would have laughed at them. This truly just felt like an impossibility. I can tell you that it is absolutely real and possible. Life is not perfect and there are always ups and downs but a bad day without gambling is still better than a good day with gambling. To change my life at 43 years old and embark on a new adventure is slightly scary but also exciting .
I wanted to share my joy with you all and remind you that it is possible to achieve your dreams and aspirations,just go for it!!

Wow how time flies when you are busy. Another year gamble free and it feels so incredible. Passed my first year at uni and have made some fantastic friends and co workers.
In the days months and years gambling I could not see a way out. I kept trying to quit I never thought I could.
I have since learnt anything is possible if you truly want it and work at it!
Life after gambling is possible and you can do it. As a great man once said. It matters not how many times we fall but how many times we get up and try again.
Keep getting up and eventually you will no longer fall!!
