my fear was to hide my addiction fro, family and friends and even myself I now look back and think of those terrible days and those days when I was low questioning my life and what is the point, the point is I have a family and a small debt wouldn't ruin my life I am bet free since September 6th 2016 In that time I wouldn't of thought I could go a day without gambling now I look and can't see or feel any urge to want to fall that way again some of the people maybe going through rough times there is help and people will understand and the support isn't just someone reading from a script it's open 1to1 sessions and helped find the route of my issue
Hey Matt, well done on your abstaining it's a bloody long hard road and I'm just at the start. Your right about telling the family it takes such a weight of your mind bit also puts weights on theres. It's very hard to admit you have a addiction I did not I got caught and could of lied but came clean we have our ups n downs and will for a long time to come, but hopefully our love and strength will see us through
Take care and keep on abstaining
Hi Mattsmith69,
Thanks for your post, and well done for sharing your story here in the forum.
I’m glad that you are now enjoying the gamble free moment, and would encourage you to keep up the good work. Well done, you!
Hopefully, your story will encourage others in similar situation to open up to their family and friends, so they can get the support that they need from them through their journey to recovery. It’s never easy when trying to disclose but, once you make the effort and go for professional help and support, and also disclose your gambling problem to significant others, you’ll realised that some burden has been lifted off your shoulders, and it makes it a lot easier when you want to chat about you gambling problem or, ask for support from them.
With that positive step, you can ask trusted family or close friend to look after your finances for you, and including your bank cards so you’re not tempted to use the cards to withdraw more money for gambling.
I’ll encourage you to continue to read and share from our forum for more ideas on strategies, and also for support to yourself and fellow forum members.
Best wishes,
Beatrice
