Hello! So sorry to bother you all.. I am new to this site. I just want a little advice really. My partner is a gambling addict. Back in April was the first I knew of this. Long story short, we had a "bills only" bank account. He always dealt with that side of things. I used to transfer money from my bank account to the bills one as did he. Anyway, it was just on the off chance, I managed to get to the post one day before he did and there were 2 debt collection agency letters. so, I went up to the bank and asked for a statement from the bill account (I have never had access to the online banking with this account as I was never given the details even though it is in both our names). I noticed several thousands of pounds going out over the space of about a year to one website in particular. Betvictor. Anyway, after arguing with him and throwing him out, I got in touch with betvictor directly via live chat. He had signed up using my name, my details. I explained to them the situation.. I am a nurse I work long hours to support my children and my partner.. And could they please close the account in question and ensure no other account is ever set up again. I enquiries about a refund, but as I presumed, they said not a chance. It was a lot of money but I understood. All my details were correct..so they closed the account in question. I am still paying the debts that have accumulated because of this. So fast forward to yesterday morning!! I took my partner back a few months ago for the sake of my children really. I changed my name before taking him back..moment of madness maybe? not to get rid of the debts, but to stop him getting more by gambling. I didn't tell him about the name change and presumed he still thought my name was what it had always been. Anyway, that obviously wasn't the case. I woke up yesterday morning to him gamble again! So I took the phone off him and looked at the account details and there it was! Signed up in my new name. I have got in touch with bet victor yet again and told them to close this new account. He has managed to spend approx £1000 in the space of a couple of days without my knowledge. Can bet victor close this account? Also, can I ask them to refund this time? Obviously it's the same date of birth used, same address used.. Just a different name. Needless to say he is out on his a**e and this time not comin back!! I have a lot of patience and sympathy for addicts if all kinds.. But after giving him a chance already to sort this problem out with my help, he is again putting myself and my children in a position where we will be struggling. What am I to do? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you 🙂

I think if you look for 'cynical wife' or 'half lifes' profile you will get a great incite as to their stories of something similar to yourself were their other halves have been compulsive gambling .

My advice is to fight for a refund...but i know these greedy b***********d s probably wont.

What ur partner did was devious and bad but i myself and many other compulsive gamblers on here have similarly done badstuff. We are addicted and under the spell. I hope u stay around

Goodluck

hi there is a chargeback scheme, even if he used a debit card, contact the bank where the card was used. you may be able to get refunds that way, however you may be required to report the guy to the police first in order to get a crime reference number. If the card was used without your permission you could claim chargebacks i think there's something like a 3 month limit.
