Hi. New here

I’m the partner of someone who it has recently come to light has an out of control gambling addiction. He has always dabbled and spent excessively but I didn’t know the extent until Saturday

On Friday my partner took an overdose. This triggered a seizure like I have never seen before. He couldn’t move or speak. He had to be given medication and be put on 3 drip bags to get it out. On Saturday I found out why he overdosed. He has an Iva and is not allowed to gamble as per the terms or it can get revoked. He had managed to gamble away all of his wages, all of his savings for months and months. This is way beyond his means. He is vulnerable and has depression. He suffered the loss of a parent 3 years ago which has pushed him to gambling and pain medication abuse. He should not have been able to gamble at all, the gambling companies should have noticed this or at the very least noticed he was gambling beyond his means.

his accounts are also partially fake. One was set up in my name and my identification (set up years ago when I was going to try gambling but didn’t actually know what I was doing so didn’t bother) and he has managed to use this to gamble. The other he set up under his brothers name but has not had to supply any identification to prove he is his brother. I don’t know if he had to provide ID but if he did it would not match up with his brothers details and should have got declined. Either way he has managed to deposit and withdraw thousands of pounds and no one has clocked anything

Hes now trying to recover. Deleted all apps, contacted people for counselling on the gambling, bereavement and pain killer misuse front, has installed firmware on his phone that stops him downloading gambling apps and contacted gamstop to ban him.

Im hoping someone has a success story on a refund? It is the only thing keeping him going and I’m worried I will lose him. And personally it’s the only thing keeping me going too. I feel betrayed, I’m trying to be there for him, but he has destroyed so much

can someone please help?

Ive read a few people under mental health grounds have recieved some form of a refund and another person on here who was self barred claimed a refund from another company he deposited money in as he had evidence supporting he was a compulsive gamblier and should never been able to gamble again its a difficult situation its possible get some legal advice you can also speak with customer service explaining the situation however to be brutally honest they dont need check on affordability as alot of people will be making claims after lossing unless you can prove your partner wasent in a stable state

Some customers have successfully received refunds by staying polite and persistent. One user shared that documenting all communication and providing clear evidence of the issue led to a resolution. Another tip is to use social media to escalate the complaint if initial attempts fail.
