Hello I am hopeful that someone will be able to offer advice or tips and tricks with dealing with the financial aftermath h3ll of being married to a gambling addict.

I am now divorced and have been for 2 years but I have a large amount of money owed in a collection company that is in my name but is because of my ex husband's addiction.  It is causing me severe mental health issues and major anxiety.  I know I need to get this dealt with but I cant afford the debt.

Has anyone dealt with negotiating with debt collections with a gambling debt.  Is this classed as domestic abuse?  It definitely is financial abuse.

I just need to move on from this now and begin to put my life back together.  I feel like my ex husband has completely screwed up my future and that of my sons as well.  Any advice on how to move on from this and how to negotiate with debt collectors?

Thank you in advance.

Hi I spoke with Stepchange when things were really bad, unfortunately we were able to repay every debt and interest . I personally believe gambling companies are negligent letting someone gamble the value of their house! It definitely affects everyone involved in the family.

stepchange gave me useful advice, that was years ago so now there will be more current information.

I severed myself financially and became tenants in common. I did that through a solicitor.

there must be a way to walk away from the debt because many people don’t even pay their credit card debts.

uk debt support line?

Debt advice foundation (open now)

good luck

@merry-go-round

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me.  I am going to look into Uk debt support line and debt advice foundation as I hadn't considered these.

Thanks again!
