Hi Everyone,
Im in need of some advice and support please. My son has learning difficulties, hes aged 20 and was the victim of a terrible assault in 2012. Since then he has become a compulsive gambler/liar. I am very worried, he has spent thousands, it used to be on the horses but now its darts, snooker and many other things. I dont know what to do anymore?
Hi winwoodrachel
Welcome to the forum. Coping with the consequences of problem gambling can be a very frustrating and deeply worrying time and especially so as your son has learning difficulties.
Have you been to a meeting of Gam-Anon? Gam-Anon is a fellowship of men and women who are husbands, wives, relatives or close friends who have been affected by the gambling problem. You can find more information about the organisation here http://www.gamanon.org.uk Dealing with the consequences of problem gambling can be an isolating experience. Discussing your particular concerns with like minded people who have maybe been through some of the same problems might help you.
Please do call the helpline and talk things through with a GamCare adviser on 0808 8020 133 or on our netline. The advisers can provide emotional support and helpful information, as well as facilitate referrals to one to one counselling appointments if you’d like to access that service too.
Best wishes
