Hi, are there any partners out there whose other half is in recovery and doing well but can't seem to forgive what happened and is destroying the marriage. My husband has been cleaned for six months and in the process of repaying debt. I resent him for what he has done to our marriage and all the broken lies. I am struggling to move on from this. Does anyone else have this issue? If so, how are you coping?

Hi lost123,

I feel exactly the same. My husband has only started the ball of recovery exactly one week today but I feel so angry! It's not only the lies and deceit but the pressure hes put on us as a family. Im constantly watching what he's doing and his mood is a little up and down after the initial euphoria he had after telling everyone - he said it was the relief. But how do you get your husband and your marriage back? I do wonder if this is it, our life constantly plagued with this forever. I wish I had an answer too 🙁

Hello there and welcome to the Forum,

Dealing with difficult feelings such as anger can be a great challenge when the trust in the relationship is broken. It may help you to read about gambling addiction and understand the behaviours associated with it. Lying is a result of denial and the gambler does not necessarily aim to deceive other people around them but to avoid facing the truth. GamCare provides free counselling sessions to help you with accepting what happened and move on, as resentment can have a detrimental impact on your relationship and on your partner’s recovery.

For more information, you may contact us and speak with an advisor.
