Thanks I'm so grateful for all the responses. Since we lived together (2002) I've always looked after the finances - all bills were paid from my account but it began to become like a joint account and made the mistake of letting him use it like that. So while he held his own account, I never really had spare money even though I was the main earner because after he had spent his money he would use ours/mine. I also got myself in debt my funding holidays etc on credit cards with the promise of being paid back or getting extra next month. I've managed to clear my debt but I know he has £10,000 owed on a credit card. I only know that because when we were thinking about moving house he had to declare it to the mortgage advisor who the said when we sell, some of the equity should be used to clear that. The children's accounts are all trust funds and are in my control and I just need to take control of my own account again. Deep down I know what I need to do but don't know how to do it. What do I tell the children, do I leave our house or should he? I'm so worried about it all but I also hate the blatant lies and the complete lack of trust I have now.

Perhaps get legal advice? Some Solicitors offer the first interview for a fixed fee. The Law Society website have a find-a-solicitor search, you can search by speciality and location.
