My son is 20 years old and has been gambling for a least a year. He has a good job and attends university one day a week, he had a good future ahead of him until the gambling started. He came to me for financial help towards the end of last year and told me he had been Internet gambling and taking out payday loans. I took out a loan to help him, and to be fair to him, he hasn't defaulted on paying it back but now he has done it again. He now owes around £12000. He told me about it a few days ago but I am beginning to think he only talks to me about it when he needs financial help. I'm worried sick. He looks so ill and down. I can't sleep properly and dont know where to turn. I've always worked hard and stayed out of debt but this problem is dragging us both down. I don't know what to do for the best. Can I help him and how? He has asked me to act as a guarantor on a new loan and I honestly don't know what to do for the best. I would appreciate any advice as I'm lost in a world I dont understand but want the best for my son as any mum would.

Thank you

Hi hope, I am also a compulsive gambler and I found that my partner taking over my finances has helped a great deal I don't get a penny she fuels the car buys the food everything I get my bait and that's it also I attend ga once a week on a Monday which is great but even if I wanted to gamble I can't because she won't give me a penny.

I'm In a mess financially because of what I've done, but I just try to forget about what is done and move on.

Good luck and best wishes.....ste26

Thank you for your comments and advice. I won't be helping him financially anymore but will provide what he needs to live on. He hasn't admitted to having a problem or needing help yet so I guess we are only just starting on this long and difficult journey. I guess that until he is ready to face up to it I just need to stay strong and support him as best I can. Thanks once again.
