Admin,

I have complained direct but they appear to have taken no notice of me. As you have direct contact with them, I wonder if you could contact W.Hill and ask why they are sending 'Service Announcement' to the email of a player who self excluded over 2 years ago, including a reminder of the username, and informing of the benefits of gambling with W.Hill? This was, I thought, one of the more reputable companies. If these people really are serious about customer care, and wanting to help problem gamblers, they sure have a funny way of showing it. They said in the email that they were 'legally obligated' to tell me about the changes. No they're not. I don't have an account with them, I self excluded.

I would certainly appreciate it if you could at least mention it to them as you would, I would assume, have a direct line of communication with them.

Hi Twinklr,

We can certainly understand how frustrating that must be for you to still receive emails after you've requested to be excluded, and a lot of people have experienced the same thing. Unfortunately, we're an independent charity, and don't actually have contact with any of the gambling companies on the level you're assuming, and therefore can't intervene on any player's behalf. Only the customers themselves can ever do anything related to their accounts, whether it's a current account or past. You could try registering a complaint about the emails with the Gambling Commission, but I think your best option is to keep complaining to any company you're excluded from and perhaps try to elevate your complaint.

I apologize that we're not able to do more for you on this matter,

I know its not your fault Gamcare Admin but posts like this just remind me how alone compulsive gamblers are against the gambling industry.

Just feels as if I am constantly getting chased by sharks and toothless support stands by watching.

Hello Twinklyr

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. There's more information on how to do that here:

Thanks Admin, I will do that and urge any other GC member who has received similar to do the same. Like Annie, I also received an email from another one I've self excluded from saying that because I haven't 'played' there in over a year, they are going to charge me a service charge! Priceless. Anyway, I appreciate your help but do share in Triangles frustration.

Hi both

Mr L had unsolicited offers both by email and almost unbelievably by physical post after he'd SE'd their justification even more unbelievably being they had no record of it. He did the necessary SE's again and even then one bunch of pondlife tried to say they wouldn't action it because it didn't come from the email account he'd registered with which was totally untrue. They were told if it wasn't actioned they would be reported to the Gambling Commission which soon got them back in their box. The other lot were informed by post never to contact him again by any means for any reason. So far so good.

I know dealing with them is a sickening prospect but it may be necessary to fight fire with fire.

All the best

Hi, Rachel,

We did it by snail mail, a letter to the good people sitting at a most helpful piece of furniture at an office in Hertfordshire. Getting the address was a nightmare, it took a full fifteen minutes searching through the site but we gave all possible identifying details and asked for permanent SE and no future contact by any media. To be "fair" to them, we've not heard since. So far.

Perhaps try a strongly worded letter to the Head Office headed "Complaint"?

BW,

CW

Thanks Lethe and CW. Don't worry, I've got the bit between my teeth again - it's just galling that I have to, as I have already self excluded, and made sure I have had replies confirming the exclusion from all companies, in writing. Normally via email granted, but in writing all the same. Another odd thing I notice, these messages and updates always seem to come at the end of the month once most people have been paid... maybe I'm just cynical, regardless I have zero trust for these leaches. Their conduct is systemically rotten.

Yeah, I've seen that Loxx, and the other one with the woman 'boss' saying that she's paid for her lifestyle or words to that effect, off the profits from gullible gamblers, almost jibing them. (Hark at me, 'them' haha!)

I had mail today through my door. I am excluded and never asked for mail. I am classed as a vulnerable adult atm.

It is frightening the lengths these sites will go to. The letter had a code for me. If my finances were in my hands.

When is the blanket ban coming in so you can exclude from all sites, does anyone know ?

today I would have tried to escape. I class these vulchers as abusive

Not only have they ignored my last 2 emails, whereby I reminded them that I had self excluded several years ago and to take me off their database, also threatening reporting them to the Gambling Commission, W.Hill have sent another to me (copied below).

I think we can safely say that W.Hill are definitely NOT committed to helping problem gamblers;

Hello Rachel,

This is bad and wrong - they shouldn't be sending you that garbage. I'm not trying to go on about myself as this is your thread but when I found out I was only banned from half of W.hill's shop that I had self-excluded from I was very angry and horrified not because of temptation and I'm sure you are the same so I can see where you are coming from. How do we move forward? Best wishes, Phil.

PS I have no problem with people who work in shops - I have friends who do. I have a problem with the lengths - it seems to me - these companies will try and entice you. We have to be strong as you are Twinklyr and give the bullies a mouth full if we feel like it - they have skin like rhinos while recovering compulsive gamblers do not in my experience but they'll get the message eventually. I/you don't want to bet, I don't want your e-mails etc. so GET lost. All my support, Phil.
