Hello everyone, im new to this! Im finally coming to the face that ive got a gambling problem after at 7 years of betting on football and horses. It all started when i was 18 when i used to have small bets on football at the weekend then it grew to betting on horses aswell. My stakes aren't massive but now i know small stakes all add up! Me and my girlfriend have just got a place together now and ive come to the realisation that wasting money on gambling will not get the bills paid and more importantly i will lose my relationship with her. Hope i can have the support from you guys on here!

many thanks

Marcus

Hi Marcus

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure forum members will be along shortly to welcome you and offer advice, but in the meantime, have you considered giving the Helpline a call on 0808 8020 133? Depending on the type of gambling you have a problem with, we can talk you through methods to make it easier to stop or cut down. We can also offer you face to face support if you want it, and we can signpost you to other agencies that can help.

Keep posting and best wishes with your plans for the future.

Take care,

As you say all the small stakes add up and your other half will not tolerate money wasted on gambling. I suspect you have never hit rock bottom where you gamble huge masses and get into debt which is great because you have seen early signs of the harm gambling can cause.

Youve come to the right place and theres loads of diaries you can read that will certainly gave you an insight into the destruction gambling can cause

Hello thanks for the advice both of you! I'd say over the years I've probably lost around 3k due to betting maybe more, my stakes are between £10 and £30 but a lot of them building up chasing losers. I haven't hit rock bottom no but I know if I carry on I will lose everything and that's not what I want. Since signing up yesterday after telling my girlfriend I have a problem I've deleted all the gambling apps and self excluded myself from them all! Just need to be strong now and focus my energy into getting back on track and enjoying my life again gambling free!

Thanks again Marcus

Hi Markus I am in a similar situation as yourself but I have a problem with roullette machines in the bookies. Just feel I am wasting money that could be going to saving for a house. Hopefully this is a turning point for is.

Good luck

Alright dmr1992, I've never really played on the roulette machines in bookies if I honest. Now I've stopped the online gambling I need to avoid going to the bookies after work and before football on Saturdays. It's got to a stage where ive been betting on every horse race going and most football matches ever night trying to chase my losses. Mug betting if I'm honest back favs in accumulators just going on the odds and one always letting me down! Hopefully we can get through this, I'm so glad I can speak to people who understand what's going on.

Yeah just have to change our attitude to gambling and see it as just giving our hard earned money away! I hope so too, today was my last gambling day. Just sick of it making me feel rubbish. I haven't told my gf or family only my brother as he used to gamble but stopped. Just got to take it one day at a time!

Couldn't agree more mate, I work my nuts off at work to just throw it away and maybe win a couple of bets a week! I'm just looking forward to not waking up and looking for my next bet that could be on that day, that's no life to live! My gf say my bank account that's how she knew I was gambling really bad because I used to say ohhh it's only a few quid a week baring in mind it could be up to like £100 being deposited. Here if you need a chat bud were all in this together!
