Hello Every One .
Just somquick advice if possible , Firstly I have not gambled since I joined here on the 06/06/16 and I am determined it stays that way, As usual I have got my self in some debt around 6k , I am unable to repay due to benefits , Its along story but I was with step change and after a review they said I could possibly go for a D-R-O. This is the thing , 6 months ago I had the money in my bank to pay off this debt but you guessed it My Gambling and total foolishness took it all away . If I apply for this D-R-O Will they turn round and say hang on you had the money to pay this 6 months ago so you can not qualify for this option . Just wondering if any one will know the answer , Thanks in advance and good luck to every one to stay stopped .
Peter
I doubt what you did six months ago is relevant to today Peter. The CAB would probably be the bast place for advice though mate. Good luck. Kind regards, Fred.
Thanks Fred . Good luck to you too
Hi Peter.
I have been through a DRO and it is worth considering. The CAB can help set one up for you.
The things you must consider is that its a year in which you will have to be on a low income or not working. However once the £90 fee had been paid I found it quite a relaxed process. It is a year though so bear that in mind. Clearly they dont want to make it too easy to wipe the debt. Within that year, if you suddenly got an amazing job or came into money, the DRO would finish and you would then have to pay the debt
The only issue I can see is if your creditor knew you had a house, large savings or an expensive car and you no longer have it. They may in those circumstances want to know why assets have been disposed of and where money has gone. The CAB can advise here
Other that than its a chance to start again if you cant pay. Your creditor can not bother you and after a year it is automatically written off.
So overall it is worth doing if you have a highish debt that you can see no way of paying
Best wishes to you
Thank You Joy and deano .
Hi Half time, glad you got plenty of responses from forum users. Remember posts here are not to be taken as advice, they're the personal experiences of those on the forum. Sounds like you are getting specialist debt advice though so that's good. Hope you can come to an arrangement you're happy with.
Best wishes
