Hi,
I am back on here to try and get advice/help from others that have or are experiancing what i am. I like betting on sports i bet on my mobile on the online bookies. I use a few different sites and going to get them closed down a.s.a.P. I mainly bet on football e.g: Accas,In-plays and various others. I started gambling 6 years ago and started off with £1 bets and then £5 bets and now up to £10 bets and i really want to quit. I want to have a normal life of being able to afford to go out and have fun instead of thinking i need to save my money to gamble. I know i can control it, it will be real hard to do so. This is day 1 and i am determined to quit for life. Any Advice would be very welcome. Bil
hi mate , i so get where your coming from and i have to stay its a very rocky road ahead to abstain 100% but like a drinker or drug addict , a small bet will never suffice , win or lose you will want more , i like you are totally addicted to online sports betting , in plays etc , up at 2am checking brazilian matches , waking up to my account balance etc and i accept i got a problem but i am not the best for advice on how to quit long term as im struggling , but your in right place there are some great people on this who have techniques that work but you will find the truth is hard , you must want to , then you must put barriers in place and then you have to be STRONG , peace man
I am totally the same up late with the argentine and brazillian matches. I hate it. I wake up at 4-5am looking at my balance strait away without opening my eyes properly. I just want it all to stop and this is day 1. I have got rid of all online betting accounts so now i would physically have to go to the bookies if i wanted to bet. I normally bet on a saturday. I take £10 with me and leave my bank card at home so i can't spend more then that. This is day 1 but i want to loose count of the days i have stopped gambling if i can. Thanks for commenting back. You said your not the best for advice but even commenting helps me to know there is someone out there willing to take about it. Thanks Bil
Hi,
You will need to look at how you access gambling to identify the best way to stop.
It was high street bookies for me. If I go out I have no cash, no access to cash therefore I cannot gamble.
If you are gambling by phone the simple answer is get rid and downgrade to a non internet version.
If via laptop download blocking software. Let someone else set the password for you.
If you still visit the bookies then self exclude, don't take cash out. Do whatever it takes.
You can and will be cured of this horrible addiction. We have all been at the early stages and it is horrible. I am now 128 days clean. Am I cured - no but I have learned how to cope with any gambling urges and take things one day at a time.
Today I will not gamble.
Best wishes
Thanks for your advice. I never thought of downgrading my mobile. That is a great option. I have now self excluded from the sites i use. Also that is great advice not to take my wallet or cash out with me. Thanks again for your advice. I'm finding it ok at the moment while i'm at work but will find it difficult when i get home at 5. yep mate i know that one , im yearning to go bookies but i just been paid soooooooooo bad idea , least your not betting at work , i can easily get away with in play betting in my office , suppose the addiction is strong as we want to make easy money but i lot of it is boredam or deeper psycholgical problems but for me its boredam more than anythng so suppose the anserwis get a hobby , u got a gf? go for a walk and a drink , go gym , swimming , reading ? judo , anything to re focus your energy , im writing this to tell my own brain the same advice , will i take it ?? im not sure as i said b4 need to be strong very strong , keep posting we share v similar issues
spraggy your working and you just got your wages, this is the hardest part for you when acess to money,im at the job center using there computers instead of going to a bookie or go on my laptop and gamble any emergency money i have got in there, just dont go near online or bookies, think and come to this forum, its mentally hard, i failed once before this time im serious
No mate not got a gf, I know i force myself not to bet at work. We do share some similarities. Force yourself not to waste your money. The way i think of it is if i place £10 with an online bookies and lose then i am just giving the owner of that company £10 and when i think of it like that i hate it. It's just like walking down the road and giving him £10. When your bet comes in it's a great buzz but is that buzz really worth it. SAVE your money and go on holiday or a day out. I watch football every time it's on and i struggle not to bet on that game wether it's before or on an in-play. Do not bet Spraggy. Keep your money in your pocket! Keep posting your right it does help. If you feel the need to bet log on to hear and talk. I'm going to log on here instead of on a gambling site everytime i have an urge. Bil
Hi, Spraggy,
You could make suitable arrangements at your bank to deal with pay day. I recommend opening an instant saver account with cash card, set up direct debits on your current account to move your living expenses into it, also set up DDs to deal with priorities or rent and utilities, and possibly debt repayments. But the idea is that all DDs go out on pay day, so that there's no money for deposits available on your current account visa. Some of this can be sorted out on line or by post if a visit to the branch is difficult.

Hi mate. I had a bet in the bookies but only took a tenner so not too bad at the moment. Havnt got them online betting accounts now as I'd have proberbly blown £50 over the weekend and regretted it. Went out today so i didn't have a bet today. I'm good mate keeping positive. You lucky to have won your money back but that doesn't happen every time . Keep trying and think of the holiday. Hope your good mate.
