Hello,

I'm a 29 year old compulsive gambler and I've been gambling for 10 years or so can't even remember jeez! I must have lost thousands and thousands of pounds over the years always thinking I'm gonna win, do this and do that. My last bet was on 28th Jan so I haven't had a bet for 2 days. I've been reading lots of stories on the forum over the last couple of days and it has given me a lot of hope that I will be able to get myself out of this vicious circle and cure myself from this horrible illness. On the positive side I have managed to come clean to my girlfriend, family and a friend of who's managed to stay gamble free for 3 months (well done to him). This website is an absolute godsend and I'm so glad that i found it. I will be handing over all my debit and credit cards to the missus tomorrow. I will also block my online gambling account. I don't know what I would do if it wasn't for her. She's been there for me for through thick and thin. Thank you baby and I'm sorry for all the lies, mood swings, hurt, etc over the years. You could have easily left me so many times but you still hung in there giving me another chance thinking I will change. So, this is my promise to you that I WILL CHANGE.I hope this is a step toward my recovery. I will ensure that I will be on this forum everyday reading people's therapies and taking lots and lots of advice on board. Any feedback, suggestions and advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. Let's do this!

Thank you Matt. Yes, I feel a lot better even though it's only day 3 gambling free. I handed over all my finances to the missus, kept myself busy doing the chores. One day at a time.

Hazard welcome to the new you . I can honestly say that within a short space of time your life will improve dramatically . This website for me has also been a god send and I haven’t had to suffer in silence . There are genuine people here who will want to share in your success . You seem to have the right attitude and you have already done some major steps eg telling the Mrs , blocks and money handing over . My advice to you if you want to take it or not is that the blocks just stop you gambling , nothing more nothing less . The secret to stopping gambling is becoming a non gambler . That’s a completely different journey that needs to start here . You have to firstly surrender yourself to it and realise that gambling from this day forward is a no no . The person that you are now will change in a good way . You will appreciate yourself and things around you so much more . You will develop better relationships , sleep better at night and have a lot more focus on everything . That is the world of a non gambler , not a gambler who is currently unable to gamble . Sounds easy doesn’t it ? It’s as easy as you want to make it. Embrace the change and become that better person that has already been inside but not surfaced for many years .

I just completed week 1 without gambling. Over the last 7 days I've gathered courage to come clean with my missus and the family. I've handed over all my debit and credit cards to the missus. We got our broadband provider block access to all gambling sites and I will not be able to change it back because the broadband account is under her name and only she knows the password. We tried doing the same with our mobile phone network too but it seems impossible for them to block gambling sites. They say they can only block adult wesbites. However, we won't stop trying. I've self excluded myself from all major online gambling sites for at least 5 years and permanently from couple (I wish they all barred permanently but not an option apparently). We both sat down and worked out our income and expenses. We both agreed to put aside a certain amount of money towards my debt (all friends and family I owe over the years because of my lies). Of course, she will be paying them because I cannot be given access to money at any cost. So, I'd like to say that it has been a positive week. I just need to keep up with this and keep on coming here everyday. Thank you all.

Hazard,

Welcome to the forum.

So, so pleased to see you really taking the bull by the horns and taking actual steps to cement your recovery. Apparantly K9 is really good for blocking gambling on mobile devices but others may be able to advise better.

Keep it up mate, trust me, a better life is waiting for you outside of gambling.

All the best.

Phil

Thank you admin for the link.

Phil - unfortunately, K9 is not available on android phones. Yes, taking one day at a time and feeling better everyday. Nearly onto the double digit!

Thanks
