Connor’s gambling experience

Hello everyone, I am new to gam care my name is Connor O’Hare and I am 20 years old and live in Bangor in Northern Ireland I just wanted to share a bit about my gambling experience. I am very addictive to gambling I only started to gamble about 8 months ago and it really has affected me mentally and has left me with no money where I am been in positions where I could not even pay my bills e.t.c! For an example I was at the bingo hall last night and was planing to leave straight after it had finished and not to go to the slot machines but this was not the case and I stayed after the bingo as well and used the last of my money last night  for the slot machines and won nothing. Which caused my mental health to be so bad I felt like killing myself last night and also crying over the phone to the gam care advisor. I didn’t know what to do to rein myself back in a bit so I got referred onto gam care a couple of months ago and used them last night for the second time as I was in such a bad state after I was at the bingo hall last night and I have to say they really supported me and also calmed me down as well. As I was not in a good place because of this they were honestly so supportive towards me ? I would definitely encourage anyone with a bad gambling addiction to contact gam care they are so supportive and will give you support over the phone and are on the other end 24/7  7 days a week and they will also tell you the local gambling services in your area e.t.c to get more support and face to face as well with an experienced councillor.

Thank you gam care for your help and support last night I really can not express how happy I am with the service that I have received from yourselves you’s are all wonderful advisors I am so much more happier and relaxed now!!! ???

Thank you for taking the time to read my gambling story / experience! ?

All the best

Connor ?

Hi Connor. Funnily enough I was just commenting on someone's thread about bingo halls. That was where gambling started for me around about the time you were born!! Like yourself I couldn't stay away from the slots after bingo finished. Thinking back in the end before lockdown happened it was as much about the slots as the bingo. In Wales bingo halls haven't opened yet so I'm get to confront that demon. I know that I'll have to self exclude. So what are you going to do now? Your young you need to stop now before the addiction really gets a grip gambling is a progressive addiction and it gets worse. Any debt? Online gambling? I know 100% you would have had the best advice from Gamcare but you need a plan going forward not just when you are in crisis. Best wishes

That was so nice to see the positive help GamCare gave you Connor. Sometimes just talking to somebody is enough to quell the demons that pop into our heads. I wish you the best of luck in your attempt to turn away from gambling. Try to focus on the positives. I would suggest the biggest single advantage you have in your armoury is that you’ve worked it out pretty quickly. Some of us on here are old lags that have spent decades gambling so for you to get the opportunity to nip this in the bud Before it affects your whole future is a blessing.
