I'm not a church goer but even the bible apparently says gambling is a sin!. Even back then they knew it was evil and the destruction it causes. I really can't see any justification in allowing this to continue. There are very few people that can gamble regularly and responsibly. Therefore it is PROBLEM gamblers keeping these places open and feeding the demand. It's an absolute disgrace x

What really sticks in my craw are all these new adverts on the TV trying to entice women into gambling through Bingo/Slots, etc. Trying to make it seem like a cool lifestyle choice.

Historically, and even pretty much today I reckon - you never see women in betting shops. I can see the bastads at the gambling companies thinking "well, what can we do about that? That's 50% of the population we're not sucking in." And going to some advertising agency with the brief to make betting acceptable and desirable to females.

Having worked in marketing myself I can actually imagine how the pitch went: "Make it feminine, you know, a group thing you can do, show some cats or cute babies, thin models who look successful, throw in a few fat ones so everyone can relate, you know like those "Dove Real Women" commercials, but not too many or they won't want to do it, give them northern accents, no not Scottish no, that's too threatening, what's that middle bit of England called, you know the place no one from London ever goes to? Newcastle? Never heard of it, but okay, yeah give them a sort of Newcastle soft accent, everyone trusts and relates to that, hey lads, I think we've got a winner here..." E T bloody C...

It's so insidious. If you substitute the product they're trying to sell "gambling" for "crack/smack", these adverts would be banned by the ASA immediately.

It's disgusting really. But no-one really cares. Thus have we made the world. For shame.

(EDIT: @Gamcare forum admin, why is the word cr ack deemed to be offensive and blanked out in my post? I trust it's not because your paymasters know that FOBTs are known as the crack C*****e of gambling and you don't want to give the machines bad publicity? Please tell me it ain't so?)
